4B Daily News – Monday, December 26, 2011 Stamford, Conn., house fire kills 5 STAMFORD, Conn. (AP) — Fire tore through a house in a tony neighborhood along the Connecticut shoreline early Sunday, killing five people, making it among the worst Christ- mases in the city's history, the mayor said. Officials said the fire, which was reported shortly before 5 a.m., killed two adults and three children. Two others escaped. Their names have not been released. ''It is a terrible, terrible day for the city of Stamford,'' Stamford Mayor Michael Pavia told reporters at a news briefing at the scene of the fire. ''There probably has not been a worse Christmas day in the city of Stamford.'' Acting Fire Chief Antonio Conte said attempts by firefighters to rescue the house's occupants were pushed back by intense flames and heat. He said fire officials do not yet know the cause of the blaze and will not likely get clues for a few days until fire marshals can enter the house ''and figure out what happened.'' Conte said he did not know the conditions of the two survivors. ''We had our hands full from the moment we arrived on the scene,'' he said. A neighbor, Sam Cingari Jr., said he was awakened by the sound of screaming and that the house was entirely engulfed by flames. ''We heard this screaming at 5 in the morn- ing,'' he said. ''The whole house was ablaze and I mean ablaze.'' Cingari says he does not know his neighbors, who he said bought the house last year and were renovating it. Power also was out in the neigh- borhood, he said. Charles Mangano, who lives near the scene, told The Advocate of Stamford he saw a barefoot man wearing boxers and a woman being led out of the house. The woman said, '''My whole life is in there,''' he said. ''They were both obviously in a state of shock.'' The 3,349-square foot, five-bedroom home sold for $1.7 million in December 2010, accord- ing to the Stamford assessment office's website. It's located in Shippan Point, a neighborhood that juts into Long Island Sound. Police find 7 dead in Fort Worth apartment GRAPEVINE, Texas (AP) — Seven people believed to be related had opened their Christmas gifts and started cleaning up the wrapping paper when they were shot to death in a suburban Fort Worth apart- ment, police said Sunday. Authorities said they believe the shooter is among the dead. Four women and three men, aged 18 to 60, were found in an adjoining kitchen and living room area when police entered the apartment around midday, said Grapevine Police Sgt. Robert Eberling. Two hand- guns were found near the bod- ies in the apartment that was decorated for the holiday with a tree, he added. ''It appears they had just celebrated Christmas. They had opened their gifts,'' Eber- ling said. The victims have not yet been identified, but Eberling said it appears they all died of gunshot wounds. He said authorities still don't know what sparked the incident. Police and firefighters rushed to the Lincoln Vine- yards complex after receiving an open-ended 911 call at about 11:30 a.m., Eberling said. ''There was an open line. No one was saying anything,'' he explained. So police went into the apartment, located in a middle- class, suburban neighborhood of Grapevine, not far from the Legal Notices Legal Notices Legal Notices Legal Notices , LEGAL NOTICE File No. 2011000368 STATEMENT FICTITIOUS BUSINESS NAME The following person(s) is (are) doing business as: Competitive Edge Athletics, 530- 526-2394, 252 Walton Ave., Red Bluff, CA 96080 Gary Michael Moniz 252 Walton Ave. Red Bluff, CA 96080 The registrant commenced to transact business under the fic- titious business name or names listed above on N/A This business is conducted by: an individual S/By: Gary Michael Moniz Gary Michael Moniz This statement was filed with the County Clerk of Tehama County on 12/7/2011 BEVERLY ROSS Tehama County Clerk & Recorder Publish: Dec 12, 19, 26, 2011 & Jan 2, 2012 LEGAL NOTICE NOTICE OF PUBLIC SALE upscale Fort Worth neighbor- hood of Colleyville. Obama exchanged gifts with his family, sang carols and attended church services as he cele- brated Christmas in Hawaii. The president and his family woke up early Sunday to exchange gifts, the White House said, then had breakfast and sang Christmas carols at the multimillion-dollar house they rent in Kailua Beach, near Honolulu. Later in the morning, the Obamas made the short trip to the chapel at Marine Corps Base Hawaii for Christmas church services. The pres- ident dressed casually in dark khaki pants and a short-sleeve blue shirt, and his wife and daugh- ters donned sundresses for Christmas services on a bright and breezy day on the island of Oahu. The White House said the president and Michelle Obama would return to the base later in the day to visit with service members and their families, as they have done in past years. Many of the Marines stationed at the base have deployed to Afghanistan, as well as Iraq, where the last American troops were withdrawn earlier The president also called 10 service members stationed around the world — two from each branch of the military — on Christmas Eve. The White House said he thanked them for their ser- vice and the sacrifice of being away from their families at the holidays. The Obamas planned to wrap up their Christ- mas festivities with dinner at the rental home with friends and family. Among those joining the first family in Hawaii are the president's sis- ter, Maya Soetoro-Ng, who lives on Oahu, and several friends Obama has known since high school. The president has kept a low profile since arriving in Hawaii on Friday evening to start a vacation delayed by the stalemate in Washing- ton over extending payroll tax cuts. He has no public events planned, and his only outings are expected to be to the golf course or to take his daughters for shave ice, a Hawaiian snow cone. The Obamas are expected to return to Wash- ington shortly after New Year's Day.
