16 www.DesertMessenger.com May 6, 2015 Salome High updates Students and athletes at Salome High School have been extremely busy. The baseball team had their last game on April 27 against San Pasqual. Chris Schuldt, teacher, softball and basketball coach of Sa- lome High School was selected as La Paz County's 2015 Small School Teacher of the Year. He will rep- resent La Paz County at the Rural Schools Conference for Arizona's Rural School Teacher of the Year. The softball team had their last game on April 24 against Paradise Honors. Mr. Schuldt, the softball coach, was very pleased about the way that the softball season ended. They put together a nice little run, and were able to win two of their last three games against Valley Lutheran and Ajo! Mt. Schuldt said, "Although I am sad that our seniors, Cheyenne Havins, Bree Bohlen, Jasmine Rice, Jennifer Wilkinson, and Katrina Garcia will not be returning next year, I am very excited to see what the future will bring." They were able to win six games this year, and they hope they will be able to continue this success next season. Thank you to all of the family, friends, and com- munity members that attended their games. The students and Mr. Schuldt greatly appreciate it! The State track meets will be May 8th and 9th. Jeff Wade reports Jordan Bracamonte, 20, was formally charged with murder on May 1st at 1:30 p.m. after the baby he is accused of abusing died from his injuries. The judge set his bail at $10 million. "It is with the deepest sadness that we announce the 1 ½ year old victim in this senseless tragedy was pronounced dead shortly after 8 this morning" said Wade. Police say Bracamonte has been in custody since April 28 after they inves- tigated an allegation of child abuse. Offi cers were called to Palo Verde Hospital Tuesday afternoon after a father brought his 1 ½ year-old son into the emergency room with severe head trauma. The father told police the baby had been at the babysitter's house since 8 a.m. He got a call at 10 a.m. from the babysitter who told him that child had been hurt and needed medical attention. The father immediately picked up the boy and took him to Palo Verde Hospital. After interviewing the babysitter and her husband Bracamonte, police ar- Blythe man charged with murder after baby dies rested the 20-year-old and booked him into Blythe Jail for attempted murder, child abuse causing great bodily injury, kidnapping, false imprisonment, ter- rorist threats, witness intimidation, and for causing corporal injury to his spouse. "I want to publicly commend Detec- tive Sergeant Coe and his team," said Wade. "They worked diligently in the opening hours of this investigation and made an arrest almost immediately." The baby boy died at Rady Children's Hospital in San Diego where he had been taken by air after being stabilized on Tuesday. At Bracamonte's arraignment today he was also formally charged with child abuse causing great bodily injury, kid- napping, false imprisonment, terror- ist threats, witness intimidation, and causing corporal injury to his wife.
