From Here & There Alumni News Collected by Craig Stewart '61 here was sad news in the Tri-Village area which was announced in The Dispatch in September. Rife's Market on W. Fifth Avenue was closing after 78 years. The news was made public by Mary Kay Rife, the daughter of Sam '55 and Molly Rife. The store was founded by Sam's great-grandparents with an emphasis on the meat department stocked with Ohio products and local produce. Bill Spain '61 and his wife, Nancy, were at the Friday alumni lunch along with their daughter, Sheryl, for the Rutgers game. Sheryl's husband, Chris, is the radio announcer for Rutgers football and basketball, and Sheryl is employed by Rutgers as an academic advisor to the athletic department. Fred Hegele '63 attended both events as well. Bill Hildebolt '63 and Fred Hegele were inducted into The Ohio State University Department of Food Science and Technology's Hall of Distinction. Established in 2013, the Hall of Distinction seeks to recognize graduates and friends of the department who have made significant contributions to the food science and technology profession. Following an induction ceremony during the college's Homecoming Fallfest, they were honored at a dinner. Congratulations to you both! Kenneth J. Spicer '63 retired January 28, 2015, as judge of the Delaware County. Ken was the court's magistrate for four years and judge for two six- year terms. His retirement was mandated by Ohio law due to age, though he will sit by assignment in his court and municipal court. Ken is very proud of his Phi Psi brotherhood. Tracy Higgenbotham '87 and his wife, Laura, once again sponsored the Polar Plunge at their Buckeye Lake Winery. The event benefitted the Buckeye Lake Winterfest and Buckeye Lake Library. They have a fun spot for wine, food, and scenery. It is well worth the trip. Dave Timmons '49 was awarded the National Fraternity's Medal of Honor for his past and ongoing work and support of the Fraternity, both locally and nationally, at Homecoming last fall. Dave is a principal reason for the funding and remodeling of the Chapter House. I cannot emphasize enough Dave's value to the construction project. Richard Winegarner '59, Jon Boyes '59, Fred Thomas '59, and Bill Spain '61 and all of their wives had their first reunion since leaving OSU. Richard arranged and hosted this special reunion at their beautiful home nestled in the woods adjacent to the splendid vineyards of Dry Creek Valley. Even though the OSU-Cincinnati game was on, they all were focused on getting reacquainted, sharing fond memories, and enjoying Richard's sumptuous food and wines.
