Admission is $3 per person. REDBLUFF 'SOUSA PALOOZA' CHICO CSU, Chico's pre- mier wind ensemble, The Symphonic Winds, pres- ents its spring concert ti- tled "Acclamations" at 7:30 p.m. April 25 in Harlen Ad- ams Theatre. The ensemble will per- form a series of favorite marches, as well as "Lauds" by Ron Nelson, Martin Mailman's "Litanies" and Maslanka's "Give Us This Day." This concert also fea- tures several guest cham- ber ensembles, including a trombone quartet and a percussion ensemble. An expected high point of the concert is the per- formance of a student com- posed and conducted piece by the percussion ensem- ble. "It's a really exciting mo- ment that we will be able to share with the audience," said Tevis. Audiences should expect to be "blown away," said Te- vis, by the concert's open- ing piece, "Ra!" by David Dzubay. Named after the Egyp- tian sun god, this mod- ern piece will take audi- ences on an unexpected musical journey through an imagined ritual of sun worship. "The motives behind the piece are not what you would call lyrical," said Te- vis. "It will require some understanding by the au- dience when listening to it." The Symphonic Winds is a highly select group of multitalented musicians who are devoted to the preparation and perfor- mance of the finest wind repertoire. The ensemble explores the variety and richness of traditional and contemporary music for the wind band. "With The Symphonic Winds, you should be able to hear precision, more like what you would expect from a chamber group as opposed to a concert band," said Tevis. "It's a fuller, richer sound." Members of the ensemble also have the opportunity to work with some of the world's finest guest com- posers, conductors, and so- loists. In addition to its uni- form series of campus and off-campus concerts, The Symphonic Winds tours and performs at profes- sional music conventions. Advance tickets, at $15 general, $13 senior cit- izens, and $6 students and children, are avail- able at the University Box Office located at the cor- ner of Third and Chestnut streets. Tickets are also available by phone 898-6333; addi- tional $4 handling fee for phone purchases. Add $2 for tickets purchased at the door. For special needs seating, call 898-6333.
