Classes are in full swing and our calendars are full, but Gamma Iota could not be doing better. At the beginning of this semester, we had a wonderful executive retreat, where the past and the current executive boards came together to fully transition into their new positions. We set goals for the chapter and planned the calendar for the next year. In late January, VP of Public Relations and Marketing Shalla Galanos '13, VP of Philanthropy Carly Skenian '12, and I went to Indianapolis for Leadership Academy. We learned many valuable lessons that we brought back to the executive board and chapter to start of the year on an excellent note. We set out to increase our total money raised for Dance Marathon this year to $80,000, and all of the money raised will go toward benefitting Children's Miracle Network. Gamma Iota holds the Children's Miracle Network close to our hearts, and we are very passionate about Dance Marathon. This year we have two overalls, 15 captains, 81 staffers, and 24 dancers all working together to help pull off this amazing event. Last month we got together with our Dance Marathon pair, Kappa Sigma fraternity, and our miracle family for a night filled with fun, popsicles and the movie "Frozen." Our miracle family has three beautiful little girls who absolutely loved the event, which brought a smile to all of our faces. Even the CEO of Shands Hospital can see how important Dance Marathon is to us. He took time out of his busy schedule to pay us a visit. He generously extended an invitation for many of us to go on a behind-the-scenes tour of the hospital with him. I was fortunate enough to go on one of these tours, and it was incredible to see what a difference Dance Marathon can make in the lives of so many children. A second goal set by the chapter was to build stronger relationships within the Greek community. In January, we hosted a terrific Zumba event with Phi Mu, taught by one of their members. We also participated and placed first in Sigma Lambda Beta's philanthropy. Sigma Lambda Beta is a member of the Multicultural Greek Council. We then invited the gentlemen over for a great dinner, where they presented us with a check for winning their philanthropy in support of our Dance Marathon goal. Academics were also a major priority for us this year, and we are thrilled to report that we raised our GPA, ranking five spots higher than last year. We are ecstatic to announce that we initiated nine beautiful new sisters on February 23. They have blown us away with how they already portray our five standards. On behalf of the sisters of Gamma Iota we thank you for all of your support and encouragement. It is because of you that we are able to be a successful chapter, raising leaders, innovators, and distinguished women whom continue to seek the heights every day.
