The Zeta Phi House Corporation P.O. Box 221 Chesterfield, MO 63006-0221 address service requested Attention: This newsletter is intended for Zeta Phi alumni and parents. If your son is still attending the University of Missouri, he will receive a copy at the chapter house. If he has graduated, please send us his permanent address to update our records. Thank you. RECRUITMENT OFF TO A SUCCESSFUL START R ecruitment season is off to a strong start with several new members for next year already signed. There have been more than 75 men apply through our online recruitment form and by the time this newsletter reaches the mailbox, we will have held another event. Our Recruitment Guide has been completed and highlights the reasons to join Zeta Phi. Our goal will be to take 40 new members for fall 2015, which is in line with our goals of recent years. If you know of a prospective member, please contact me at brb5hc@ mail.missouri.edu. In _kai_, Ben Boeding '16 Recruitment Chairman brb5hc@mail.missouri.edu Reflecting on Zeta Phi Success Updates on Academics, Philanthropy, and Recruitment Z eta Phi finished the fall 2014 semester with what may be the highest chapter GPA in history. The overall chapter GPA was 3.4 and the pledge class average was 3.6. Zeta Phi holds a long and distinguished tradition of academic excellence, and this is largely a product of our scholarship program. Some of the instruments we employ in attempt- ing to help our new members achieve academic success include mandatory study hours five nights a week, an active mentor program that is designed to foster academic acclaim, and the Yeckel Library. By instilling Zeta Phi values and work ethic during the freshman year, Zeta Phi has been able to win top honors for grades at the university the past 15 of 17 years. Lastly, to show our appreciation for our professors, the men of Beta Theta Pi hold an annual Teacher Appreciation Dinner in the dining hall at the chapter house. The teachers receive a tour of the house and a high-end dinner prepared by our cooks. With the countless resources that Beta provides, academic success becomes second nature for every member. Philanthropy and Recruitment Take Spotlight In February, Zeta Phi held its first annual Slap Shot on Cancer philanthropy hockey game with Sigma Chi. While we were not victorious in the game, we were victorious in the cause, raising about $15,000 for the charity. It was a fun and rewarding event and we plan to do it in future years. The fall 2014 new member class was initiated in January and we welcomed 39 men into Zeta Phi. The chapter continues to pride itself on the percentage of new members that stay in the pledgeship program, make grades, and are initi- ated. All of us have fond memories of our initia- tion ceremony when we became active members of Beta Theta Pi. In _kai_, Samuel P. Gerlach '16 Chapter President 2015 TIGERS FOOTBALL Stop by the chapter house when you're in Columbia this fall! September 5 vs. SEMO September 19 vs. Connecticut October 3 vs. South Carolina October 10* vs. Florida November 5 vs. Mississippi State November 21 vs. Tennessee *Zeta Phi Society Golf Tournament, October 9 I t is with considerable regret that the Fraternity announces the passing of Beta undergraduate Paul Miltenberger '17. At home in Dallas for the Easter holiday, Paul was struck by a hit-and-run automobile on April 5 and was laid to rest on April 11 with an outpouring of love from his Fraternity. On Monday, April 6, the Zeta Phi Chapter held its own candlelight vigil at the chapter house, with a podium that donned the Texas flag that symbolized Paul's passion for life and love for his home state. More than 60 of his Mizzou Beta brothers drove from Columbia to Dallas to pay their final respects. Beta alumni who live in Dallas opened their homes and hosted the undergraduate men as they traveled to honor their fallen comrade. Advisory Council Member Tom McCasland, Oklahoma '56, officially represented the General Fraternity at the services, as well as Regional Chief Wayne Huddleston, Texas at Arlington '98, and District Chief Kent Mire, TCU '07. Zeta Phi has established a permanent scholarship in Paul's memory so, in lieu of flowers, gifts may be made payable to the "Zeta Phi Society Foundation" at P.O. Box 998, Columbia, MO 65205. Your enthusiasm and joy lives on, Brother Miltenberger—forever in the halls of Zeta Phi. Zeta Phi Active Will Be Greatly Missed Zeta Phi
