Case Statement F or over 100 years, the Nebraska Chapter of FarmHouse has been building men, consistently valuing three important areas: scholarship, leadership, and lifelong friendships. Our home no longer optimizes these three passionate pursuits—a threat that if le unaddressed could compromise the core of an institution that has had a measurable and positive impact on the university, the state, and in some cases our country and world. Accordingly, we have designed this campaign around three pillars. PILLAR 1 – SCHOLASTICS A. Challenge: Our house layout is not optimized for academic success, which impacts not only our current members but also our ability to attract top scholars. B. Solution: i. Ample and modern common study space. Technologically advanced, well lit, and quiet, these areas will accommodate individual study, group projects, and exercises that require advanced multi-media capabilities. ii. Individual study rooms will be equipped with appropriate furnishings, high-speed Internet access, sufficient electrical outlets, and space that is conducive to the type of advanced academic pursuits most of our young men aspire to. C. e Object of our Fraternity is to…encourage studiousness. PILLAR 2 – LEADERSHIP A. Challenge: Our facility is not competitive with the other Greek houses in recruiting top leaders. Additionally, our facilities are not conducive to building great leaders. B. Solution: e new house will be equipped with large common spaces that are more appropriately designed for chapter meetings, and more intimate and technologically advanced meeting facilities will promote productive committee and small group meetings. Plus, a new house will help attract and retain the best and brightest UNL students. C. e Object of our Fraternity is…to inspire members in seeking the best… in life. PILLAR 3 – LIFELONG FRIENDSHIPS A. Challenge: Modern students congregate, interact, and socialize differently, and our facility does nothing to enhance the interactions that are such a meaningful part of the FarmHouse experience. B. Solution: Common spaces will be multi-purpose and designed to facilitate both small, intimate gatherings and large functions, and individual rooms will promote the type of collegial interaction that one only gets as an undergraduate. In short, our home will be the central gathering place for our brothers, alumni, parents, and guests, promoting the building of lifelong relationships. C. e Object of our Fraternity is to promote good fellowship. ese goals can only be accomplished by building a new facility. An ambitious project requires an ambitious fundraising goal. So, we must be strategic about our efforts, in order to ensure success. It is the only way we can honor and perpetuate the past, present, and future. In a world of diminishing centering points, a fundamentally unique and profoundly positive organization like FarmHouse must continue.
