Delta Gamma page 3 S pring has been an exciting semester for Beta Kappa. We hosted our first annual Anchors Aweigh date party, attended the Delta Gamma Institute in Columbus, Ohio, and enjoyed our spring philanthropy and mom's weekend. It has been wonderful welcoming seven new members to Beta Kappa through continuous open recruitment as well. CHAPTER AIMS FOR ACADEMIC IMPROVEMENT Beta Kappa has earned a GPA of 3.21, which puts us 11th of the 12 Panhellenic sororities. Overall, we rank 17th out of the 43 Greek organizations on our campus. We have restructured our academic procedures by focusing on grades throughout the semester and are working towards earning a higher GPA in the fall. ADDITIONAL GOLDEN ANCHOR PROGRAM ADOPTED Philanthropy has remained important to Beta Kappa, and we have expanded our philanthropic endeavors to include not one but two golden anchor programs, Windsor Retirement Home and Pioneer Ridge Retirement Home, as well as continuing our service at Audio Reader and a local Lawrence thrift shop. On April 12 we partnered with Sigma Nu for our spring philanthropy, Parking Lot Bash, which included a cookout and games. Proceeds from this event benefited Service for Sight as well as Sigma Nu's philanthropy, St. Jude Children's Hospital. OPEN RECRUITMENT FINDS SEVEN NEW MEMBERS Beta Kappa had the opportunity to participate in continuous open recruitment at the beginning of the spring semester. We took seven fabulous new members who have been learning the ins and outs of Delta Gamma from our new member educator, Kate Gray '13. Our vice president of membership, Abby Cauble '12, said, "We were so excited about how well our new members got along with current members while participating in our three recruitment events, and we can't wait for them to be official members!" DELTA GAMMA INSTITUTE In February, five members of CMT attended Delta Gamma Institute in Columbus, Ohio. Cassidy Boles '13, vice president of programming, said, "I loved institute because I was surrounded by hundreds of women who all wanted to grow in their leadership positions. I loved getting advice from the other women and hearing their ideas and certain things that have been fun or worked well in their chapter. I couldn't wait to get home and implement everything I learned." COLLEGIANS INVOLVED ON CAMPUS On campus, Beta Kappa is proud to have many members involved in numerous organizations and honor societies. To name a few, Hannah Reinhart '12 holds the office of Panhellenic president, Katie Rudolph '13 holds the office of co-recruitment director of Panhellenic, Hannah Liberman '12 is a KU Dance Marathon executive director, and Haley Lynn '11 serves as Rock Chalk Revue co-executive director. We are so proud of these ladies for their wonderful accomplishments and representations of Delta Gamma! SPRING EVENTS We hosted mom's weekend on April 17 and 18, and it was such a joy to spend time with our moms and Delta Gamma sisters. We hosted an open house, followed by bowling and a silent auction at Pinstripes. In addition, Beta Kappa will be hosting a collumnae event on May 3 which will focus on Joining Forces, Delta Gamma's philanthropy servicing visually impaired veterans and troops. What a great spring semester it has been! It is a pleasure to work with such a strong CMT and JCMT, and I look forward to continuing to do so this summer and fall. Thank you to our alumnae for your wonderful support and founders' day event. Please stop by the Chapter house at any time.
