I have to admit that I was not
one of the thousands of people
with vampire fever when Twilight
came out. I had no desire to see it
in theaters. In fact, I just watched
it a few weeks ago because a friend
told me how good it was. I had to
check it out for myself. To my sur-
prise, I liked it. The plot was good
and kept me interested through
the end to see if Bella, played by
Kristen Stewart,
and immor-
tal vampire
Edward, played
by Robert
Pattinson, stay
together.
Twi-hards
will be happy
to know that
Twilight: New
Moon stays
on track with
the book.
The movie
doesn't
go into as
much detail
as the book
or else
the movie
would be
five hours
long. It
refer-
ences Romeo and Juliet
throughout the whole movie which
is off-track with the book that has
Wuthering Heights as its center.
The only difference is that no
one dies.
Without giving away too much
of the movie, I will try to sum-
marize. Bella turn's 18 and she
doesn't want to make a big deal
out her birthday because of the
age difference starting between
her and Edward. Bella pushes the
idea of becoming immortal and
Edward refuses.
The Cullen's throw her a birth-
day party that goes bad. Blood is
spilt and urges take over. Edward
once again protects Bella because
of his strong feelings for Bella and
desire to protect her. The Cullen's
decide to leave Forks and Edward
breaks Bella's heart by saying he
doesn't want her anymore.
Just when Bella's heart starts to
heal and she emerges out of a deep
depression, her relationship with
Jake (Taylor Lautner) changes. She
discovers the secret of Jake and
his Quileute Tribe. Jake and other
members of the tribe protect Bella
while Edward is out of the picture.
The wolf pack and the Volturi's
are introduced with amazing CGI
fight scenes. Even though the film's
budget has increased, most of the
movie takes place in the woods of
Forks, Wash. Director Chris Weiz
did splurge and film in Italy
for
a few
scenes
with the
Volturi.
New
Moon
ends with
Jake,
Bella and
Edward
talking in
the woods.
Jake leaves
and Bella
and Edward
finish the
conver-
sation.
Edward
asks Bella
a question
(not going
to say just
in case you
haven't seen it yet) and the screen
goes black, completely leaving you
hanging.
We had a great audience.
They reacted well with the movie,
between laughter and sweet
moments. There was one scene
where Jake removes his shirt and
almost all of the ladies started
wooing. All I could think was this
is Shark Boy… gross. You remem-
ber Shark Boy and Lava Girl, a
2005 film where a boy dreams up
Shark Boy and Lava Girl and the
horror that lies within their planet.
Shark Boy has really grown up.
I give two thumbs up for
Twilight: New Moon and can't wait
until June for the next part of The
Twilight Saga: Eclipse. The long
wait in line just to get into the
theatre is worth the wait. Just
please remember to be patient.
What Are We Going to Do
with Bella?
