Late last Wednesday the delegation from the
Fayetteville-Cumberland County Chamber of
Commerce made it back safely from China. All
had remarked on what a once in a lifetime op-
portunity the trip was. From visiting local jade,
pearl and silk factories, to haggling for gifts at
the local Shanghai Yu Bazaar, to climbing the
Great Wall, the group was able to experience
Chinese culture first hand.
While there, our nation's President was also
visiting. The group got to see the Chinese army's
preparations at Tiananmen Square as well as read coverage in China's
national English newspaper about the event. It was fascinating to
read about it from another country's perspective and daunting to
realize what a small world
this really is.
Aside from the sheer
beauty of the country many
in our group were taken by
the amount of construc-
tion projects going on in
the nation. Cranes lined the
sky in every direction to pre-
pare for
the Shanghai Expo in 2010, an expo expected to draw 70
million from across the world.

groundbreaking of the Bellagio luxury apar tment complex. Attending were
