Saturday, December 3, 2011 – Daily News Religion Faith&Worship Church news Celebration The First United Methodist Church will host "Cele- bration of Christ Jesus' Birth." The free event includes a pageant, Christmas carols and music by the Jammers. Hot soup and drinks will be served. The celebration starts 6 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 7 at the First United Methodist Church, at the corner of Aloha Street and David Avenue. For information call Sharran at 527-0885. Praying with Holy Woman Sisters Gloria Heese and Janel Sawatzki will be offering another of their series of Holy Hours "Praying with Holy Woman" on Sunday, Dec. 4 from 5:45 to 6:45 p.m. at Marsh cottage, next to St Peter's Episcopal Church. This Advent the Prophetess Anna will be the inspi- ration for reflection and prayer. Although only two verses are found in Luke's Gospel referring to this woman, there is much we can glean by spending time with this elderly widow who "spoke about the child to all who were waiting for God to set Jerusalem free." Holy Hour will end in time for everyone to attend the regularly scheduled Advent Taize at 7 p.m. St. Peter's will also host Ecumenical (Interdenomination- al) Taizé Worship Services every Sunday evening dur- ing Advent through Dec. 18. Taizé services bring together prayer, meditative music and silence in uniting Christians to prepare for the coming of the birth of Christ. All are welcome to participate in Holy Hour and Advent Taizé Services at St. Peter's, located at 510 Jef- ferson St., on the corner of Jefferson and Elm streets. For more worship service information, call St. Peter's at 527-5205 or send an email to stpeters@sbc- global.net. More information about Taizé is available at www.taize.fr. Bible reading Come and hear the Bible read. Each Tuesday at 12:30 p.m. at St. Andrews in Corning, a chapter from the New Testament will be read beginning with Matthew on Tuesday, Dec. 13. There will also be time for prayers for the commu- nity and personal prayers. St. Andrews Episcopal Church is located at 820 Marin St., in Corning. For more information contact Charles Rouse at 824- 2321. Home Spun Christmas All are invited to enjoy a Home Spun Christmas afternoon starting at noon Saturday, Dec. 10, featuring a gourmet lunch and door prizes followed by bridge or other card or board games or just visiting with friends. Cards will be provided, please bring other games. The parish hall at St.Peters' Episcopal Church is on the corner of Jefferson and Elm streets. Cost is $10. For more information or reservations, call Nancy at 527-3602. Which way? Have you ever come to a crossroad in your life and wondered which way to go? Contrary to popular belief, God's way is the only way that will prosper. His Word says in Proverbs 14:12, "There is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is the way of death." It is like the one who puts his ladder up against a wall and begins to climb. When he gets to the top he finds that it is the wrong wall. Jeremiah 10:23 says, "O Lord, I know the way of man is not in himself; it is not in man who walks to direct his own steps." Have you ever felt your way was blocked no matter which way you turned? There is a story in the Bible of a man named Balaam. He disobeyed God's way. Let's look at what hap- pened. In Numbers 22:22 it says that God stood in his way as an adversary against him. Have you ever felt like you were between a rock and a hard place? Numbers 22:24 continues, "Then the Angel of the Lord stood in a narrow path between the vineyards, with a wall on this side and a wall on that side." No matter which way he went he was blocked. There is only One who knows the way. When we trust Him to show us His way, in our circumstances, He will. God is the Orchestrator in our life. A jigsaw puzzle has many pieces, but they must all fit together for the complete picture. God is the One who puts the pieces of our lives together, from the beginning to the end. This One who laid the foundation of the earth, Who knows the heart of every person, is the only One who can lead us onto the right paths. I love the verse in Psalm 85:13 which says, "Righteousness will go before Him, and shall make His footsteps our pathway." Psalm 23:3 says that He leads us in the paths of righteous- ness. Wouldn't you rather be on the right path than the wrong one? How can we know the right path? Jesus said in John 14:6, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me." Our first and only right path is to acknowledge that we are sinners and to accept the Lord Jesus Christ as our personal Savior. He alone the verses in Psalm 25:4-5, "Show me Your ways, O Lord; teach me Your paths. Lead me in Your truth and teach me, for You are the God of my salva- tion; on You I wait all the day." The Lord knows the Marilyn Adams GodTalk has eternal life. Once we have done that, we look to Him continually for direction. His Word says in John 15:5 that without Him we can do nothing. Our way can- not prosper us, but God's way always leads to truth and prosperity. We will be prosperous when we read His Word and obey it. God says to Joshua in Joshua 1:8, "This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosper- ous, and then you will have good suc- cess." Do you need direction? I really like The Anderson California Stake of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints presents "Journey to Bethle- hem." "This is our 18th anniversary Christmas holiday pro- duction that takes place every two years," said director Amy Crofoot. "I have never experienced anything like JTB. This is truly a unique production. I love that as you travel from room to room and get to experience our Sav- ior's birth from so many different perspectives." Also asked what she hoped would be the take away for visitors? "My hope is that those who attend will feel the Spirit of our Heavenly Father. I hope attendees will know that we, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints believe in and love our Savior, Jesus Christ. I pray that all who visit JTB will walk away feeling the love of our Father in Heaven and the joy that His love brings." A crèche exhibit featuring nativity scenes from around the world will commence to start the journey. From that point, Journey to Bethlehem takes visitors on a guided tour of the Holy Land at the time of the Nativity. Guests will encounter along the way: The evil King Herod who will try to entice them to give the location of the Christ child; Shepherds who, while tending their flocks receive heavenly messengers who guide them to the way through the wilder- ness circumstances of our lives. We can trust Him because He is trustworthy. Proverbs 3:5-6 are good verses to memorize and make into a prayer. "Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths." When He says to trust in Him the meaning is literally to lean on Him rather than attempt stand- ing straight on our own. When He says to acknowledge Him the meaning is literally to act solely in terms of what we know of Him. He is so desirous that we look to Him in all aspects of our lives. He alone can lead us in His way. Marilyn Adams accepted the Jesus Christ as her personal Savior in 1958. A debilitating accident in 1977 permitted the Lord to woo her into intimate relationship with Him. He taught her timeless truths that sustain her and permeate her teachings. She ministers primarily to women in crisis or incarceration. Journey to Bethlehem manger; the Wise Men on their way to find and worship their newborn king; Mary and Joseph, who after finding no room in the inn, resort to spending the night in a lowly sta- ble that will become the birthplace of the Savior of Mankind. Along the way, visitors will be serenaded by a chorus of Angels and will receive small tokens and gifts reminding them of the events they have just witnessed. Each journey last about an hour and will depart periodically throughout the evening. Members from the Anderson, Antelope, Cottonwood, Corning, Fall River, Palo Cedro and Red Bluff congrega- tions take part in this production that has grown from 300 visitors in 1990 to more than 1,700 in 2009. The dates and times for Journey to Bethlehem are Dec. 8, and 9 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. and Dec. 10 from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Anderson California Stake Center, 4075 Riverside Ave. A special signing presentation for the deaf and hard-of- hearing will be presented on Dec. 9, at 6 p.m. A special Spanish presentation will be presented on Dec. 10, at 6 p.m. For more information call Crofoot at 530-378-1104 or Robii Dotson at 808-429-4362.
