ByBrettMartel TheAssociatedPress NEWORLEANS AnthonyDavis scored 23 of his 29 points in the second half, including two free throws with 9 seconds left, and the New Orleans Pel- icans moved into eighth place in the Western Conference with a 103-100 victory over the Golden State Warriors on Tues- day night. Stephen Curry scored 25 points, hitting five 3-point- ers, but his final attempt that would have tied the game went in and out. That allowed the Pelicans to move back into the West's last playoff spot by a half-game over Oklahoma City, which lost to San Antonio. Now New Orleans, which has not participated in the postseason since 2011, has five games left to hold on to a play- off spot and owns a tiebreaker over the Thunder. The Pelicans, who overcame a double-digit halftime deficit, also needed a late surge to pull out arguably their biggest vic- tory this season. After Curry's layup gave the Warriors a 95-92 lead with 3:04 left, the Pelicans re- sponded with an 8-0 run dur- ing which they benefited from three Golden State turnovers. THESCORE By Josh Dubow The Associated Press SANJOSE San Jose general man- ager Doug Wilson said his team might need to take a step back- ward after last year's historic playoff collapse if the Sharks wanted to eventually reach their goal of a Stanley Cup champion- ship. That step was bigger than even Wilson anticipated and has left the Sharks out of the playoffs for the first time since the 2002- 03 season. San Jose was officially elim- inated from playoff contention Monday night and will be play- ing out the string in the final two games for the first time in more than a decade. "We've been through a lot to- gether and it hasn't been a lot of fun the past few months," coach Todd McLellan said Tuesday. "Let's make sure we're still play- ing for each other and we're still playing hard." The Sharks play in Edmon- ton on Thursday and then fin- ish the season in Los Angeles on Saturday when they could have a chance to knock the Kings out of the playoffs to provide perhaps a slight bright spot to a disap- pointing season. Before long, the swing left him and he re- sembled a guy who couldn't break 80. He became so frustrated that he even threw a few clubs because of a game that had never been so maddening. This wasn't Woods playing in the Masters. This was the last seven weeks when he was trying to decide if he should even show up. "I worked my (tail) off," Woods said Tuesday with a smile of sat- isfaction. "That's the easiest way to kind of describe it. I worked hard. ...
