Surely you want future generations to have those kinds of memories. You owe it to yourself to give back." Mike spent his freshman year living off campus and lacked a sense of belonging. After a few high school friends encouraged him to pledge Lambda Chi, he quickly found his place on campus. Right out of school, Mike worked for Trane Co in Tennessee and Virginia. He then moved back to St. Louis with Reynolds Aluminum. After six years with two corporations, he went into the family printing business and retired after 35 years. In retirement, he enjoys hunting, fishing, golf, construction, and spending time with his seven, soon to be eight, grandchildren. Mike and his wife, Marilyn, reside in Fenton, Missouri. He can be reached at mfsmls@swbell.net. Mike's ADZ Memories • The closeness of his pledge class • House projects • Water fights • Mert's cooking • Chicken benefit dinners • Party weekends "If you can recall just one great memory from ADZ then you owe it to yourself to give back so that future generations can have the same." –Mike Svoboda '71 Mike Svoboda '71 (Continued from page 1) F resh off the bus from California, Don Ellison '66 knew absolutely no one or the culture at Rolla. It was only after Len Kirberg '66 introduced himself and Lambda Chi Alpha to Don, that the Californian discovered his place on campus. "What I found at LCA was a great group, friendly and likeminded. In those early days LCA was home and a house full of brothers who had my back," Don said. The brothers of Alpha- Delta Zeta quickly turned into his family, making his entire college experience easier. The Fraternity added purpose to his undergraduate years and, along the way, he developed lifelong friendships. When presented with the chance to preserve the brotherhood for others, Don knew it was an opportunity he couldn't pass up. "The capital campaign is a chance to give back just a small portion of the benefits the Chapter unconditionally gave me," he said. "I hope successful efforts will contribute to maintaining the traditions of brotherhood that so benefitted me at LCA." Don is thankful to LCA, Alpha-Delta Zeta, the University of Missouri, and Rolla "for an experience worth celebrating." He stays in touch with several brothers by phone and the annual Lake of the Ozarks reunion. Don splits his time between managing his engineering and a real estate companies. His primary focus as an engineer is oil and gas property evaluations. He uses this discipline for personal and business use. Historically, he used a broad set of petroleum engineering skills, drilling to processing, to allow for a good standard of living. His free time is spent as a key grip for his photographer wife, Susan, and promoting the Sims Foundation, a mental health service for musicians in Austin, Texas. Don and Susan reside in Houston. He can be reached at donellison@comcast.net. Maintaining the Traditions of Brotherhood Don Ellison '66 Gives Back to Secure LCA's Legacy Don Ellison '66 and brothers enjoy an annual reunion.
