I'm not from Fayetteville, but I have kinfolk two hours away in Farmville. I've never tried fatback (until two weeks ago) and never really knew too much about Carolina BBQ. Coming up on my two-year anniversary here in Fayetteville, it is now home. I have been called a "cheerleader" for this city. And I have also come to its defense when speaking about "da Ville" with the uninformed hipsters that populate Raleigh who have never even been to our fine city. ey said they felt "sorry" for me because I lived here during a recent trip. Obviously they had no idea who they were talking to. And obviously they've never met Bill Hurley, a fine southern gent who was one of the pioneers in revamping our historic Downtown and helped coordi- nate the Dogwood Festival. ey've never met Janice Bundy, daughter of "Buddy" of Buddy's BBQ on Gillespie Street, a mom and pop joint serving delicious BBQ and southern food for more than 75 years. ey may have watched e Lord of e Rings, but did they know that the in- ternational soprano Kaitlyn Lusk resides in North Fayetteville? Did they know that she has one of the most unique careers ever…traveling the globe and per- forming with different orchestras, e Lord of the Rings Symphony and singing it all in Elvish? Just forget about "them." Simply because they know nothing. ey know nothing about how special the local color of Fayetteville truly is. But we do. facebook.com/cityviewnc The Dogwood Issue I was ecstatic to be named Fayetteville Young Professional of the Year at the Annual Chamber Gala
