3 ALPHA GAMMA DELTA Psi Chapter Shines Chapter Receives Local and National Recognition A nother memorable semester is underway for Psi Chapter. We have been part of numerous events and received many honors. Psi Chapter received third overall in grades this fall, third place at Homecoming, and, at the annual Greek Excellence Awards Banquet, won Most Outstanding Scholarship and Most Outstanding Community Relations. Chapter Welcomes 113 New Members On October 19, Psi Chapter was honored and blessed to initiate 113 new members. Hannah Cory '12 and I served as their Mamma Nuts. Each one of these girls brings something special to Alpha Gamma Delta. We are excited to see what is in store for each one of them within Alpha Gam and the University of Alabama in the upcoming years. AGD Featured on ESPN GameDay November was an exciting month for Psi Chapter. We had the privilege to welcome and provide hospitality to ESPN GameDay. College GameDay selected one chapter to film a segment for the pre-show of the Alabama vs. Mississippi State football game. Alpha Gam was overjoyed to be selected to represent UA on national TV. It was a true privilege to have the opportunity to show the nation a glimpse of the contagious Alpha Gam spirit! ESPN had such a good time that they returned to Alpha Gam on Thanksgiving Day to serve breakfast, lunch, and dinner to members of our chapter and families. Successful Hometown Parties Over Christmas break, we held recruitment parties in many hometowns, including Tuscaloosa, Birmingham, Atlanta, Huntsville, Montgomery, and Mobile. All of our members enjoyed getting to meet potential new members and spending time with their sisters. More Than $2,000 Raised for Philanthropy As soon as we got back from break, Psi Chapter was in full swing. We hosted our annual philanthropic event, Threads. Members worked to collect gently used clothing and accessories from Panhellenic chapters and other organizations on campus. We worked with Chi Omega to price and categorize the donated clothing. On January 26, Alpha Gam was transformed into a pop-up thrift shop, complete with decorations, baked goods, and music. We opened our doors to all students for a night of great shopping and philanthropy. The turnout for the event was incredible, with more than 700 students coming through the shop, and we raised $2,460 that was donated to International Justice Mission. Remaining clothes were donated to Sozo Children, an organization that will be opening their own thrift shop this spring. As a result of our exciting year, all of the girls are overjoyed and thrilled about spring semester. We would be honored for alumnae to visit, so if you are close by please come say hello!
