SPRING 2015 The Squirrel's Nest P S I C H A P T E R O F A L P H A G A M M A D E L T A A T T H E U N I V E R S I T Y O F A L A B A M A Decorating Updates Give Alumnae Room New Life W hen we built the new sorority house, all new furniture was purchased except for a few special pieces, like the grandfather clock, the grand piano, and the furnishings for the alumnae room. Recently, we had the alumnae room redone with a new sleeper sofa and dresser to accommodate overnight guests. The wing backs and side chairs have been reupholstered as well. We kept the original wood pieces but have also added a new coffee table, lamps and accessories. We know you'll love the new updated look, and we thank Victoria Einarsson '10 for her work on the project. In addition to the alumnae room updates, we really wanted a bench to go under the antique mirror in the living room. Our decorator, Anne Cox Ross '66, found the perfect one that arrived in late January and helps complete the room. T his fall the undergraduate executive council approached the executive council advisors about establishing a scholarship to cover sorority dues for an outstanding member is in need. With today's soaring college costs and so many girls paying out-of-state tuition, there are some truly outstanding members facing financial hardship. Families in crisis, lost jobs, and other extenuating circumstances make it hard for some of our most loyal members to remain active. Our undergraduates want to help and have asked for alumnae help as well. The chapter members have voted to establish a needs-based dues scholarship to cover the cost of sorority dues for one year. Applications will be completed in the fall semester and the selected member will receive free sorority dues for the following spring and fall semesters. Several applications were received and the review process has begun. The chapter is willing to bear the expense but welcomes alumnae support and donations. Applicants will be evaluated by their scholarship, financial, and member development performance. They must be a member in good standing and complete an extensive application process. All applicants will be reviewed and selected by the executive council advisors with input from the appropriate undergraduate officers to confirm performance in scholarship, financial, member development, and to show they are contributing members of the sorority. Any contributions from interested alumnae would be greatly appreciated. While contributions will not be tax deductible, your support can make a big difference in assisting the active members of Psi Chapter. Please contact me with any questions about how you can help. Loyally, Nancy Richeson Siniard '73 nsiniard@totalcommarketing.com Needs-Based scholarship estaBlished Housemother Needed O ur housemother, Miss Debbie, recently became engaged and has submitted her resignation effective the end of the 2016 spring semester. We are accepting resumes of ladies who are interested in the position. The job comes with full room and board, health insurance, and several hundred precious girls to love. Ideally, we would like to have someone watch and learn from Miss Debbie during recruitment and the and throughout the coming year. This is a 24/7 job and much different than the housemother roles many of us remember. Interested parties should submit their resume to Nancy R. Siniard '73 at 2306 Annandale Road SE, Huntsville, Alabama 35801. Please send questions to nsiniard@totalcommarketing.com.
