She now has her dream job of being a morning TV news anchor, has been nominated for an Emmy because of her hard work and dedication as a reporter, as well as getting to interview interesting people such as Chris Harrison, host of the Bachelor. Her extremely successful career has not just been the result of her work since college, but a dream since she was a little girl that she has made a reality. She grew up in Des Moines, Iowa, as one of seven children. Her mother worked for a TV news station and, ever since she first appeared on her mother's show, Sabrina knew that she was destined to be in TV news. That dream led her to the University of Kansas where she found two new loves: the Kansas Jayhawks and Sigma Kappa. When she came to KU she went through formal recruitment, which is where she found Sigma Kappa. The girls there were genuine and Sabrina knew that she had found a place to fit in. For her, memories of Sigma Kappa are filled with laughter, late nights, and spending time with her sisters. They became her best friends, her sisters, and her mentors. While at KU, she enjoyed other pursuits such as the working on the Kansan and interning for 6News. But one of her favorite activities of her college career was helping produce Rock Chalk Revue. Rock Chalk Revue is a variety show put on the students of KU to benefit charity. This experience helped her to branch out to others who were not in Sigma Kappa to collaborate on the show. Sabrina has since come a long way from producing Rock Chalk Revue. She now is a morning news anchor for ABC5 in Des Moines. When she first arrived, she was not planning on being an anchor. But shortly after, the station went through a restructuring process that left them without a morning news anchor. While not having very much anchor experience, Sabrina offered to be the morning anchor. She stepped up to the plate, not knowing if it would work out, and now she is doing well at it. She has interviewed people such as a hot air balloon pilot, an 18-year- old girl who was kidnapped at gunpoint, and a man who stopped a bank robber. Meeting so many new and interesting people is a favorite part of her job, Sabrina says. A key part of being successful in her mind is loving her job. "If you don't love and enjoy your job, you won't be good at it." Another highlight of her career was being nominated for an Emmy by the National Academy of Television, Upper Midwest Division. Sabrina speaks of the occasion as humbling and she felt honored to be a part of it. To celebrate with her, Sabrina brought her mother and shared a night of eager anticipation and entertainment. Sabrina spends her time in Des Moines with her family and volunteering with the Boys and Girls Club. She can be contacted at sabrinaahmed@gmail.com. Good Things Come to Those Who Work for It
