S ince its founding in 1870, more than 2,600 men have had the honor of being initiated into the Missouri Alpha Chapter of Phi Delta Theta Fraternity. Those men have created a long history of leadership on campus, in the classroom, in intramurals, and as alumni. Our chapter house at 101 E. Burnam has been the centerpiece of Missouri Alpha Chapter life and the place we have called home since 1956. Our house has not undergone any renovations since 1989, while several other fraternities on campus have renovated or rebuilt their structures. The house is now in serious need of updating to meet the needs of today's students and safety standards. If we are to remain a preeminent fraternity at the University of Missouri, it is essential that Missouri Alpha Chapter provide a safe and efficient facility to our undergraduate members—a home that can compete with the many other fraternities that have or are renovating, as well as the many off- campus housing options near the University. As a result, Missouri Alpha Chapter proudly announces the Proud to Be a Phi – Continuing 150 Years of Tradition campaign. Our goal is to raise $1.5 million for a renovation of the chapter house. Thanks to the generosity of more than 79 alumni, we are pleased to report that $944,750 has already been committed to our fundraising effort. Now we need all of our brothers to step forward with a helping hand to ensure that we meet, and even exceed, our $1.5 million goal. It is clear that we can only guarantee the future of Missouri Alpha Chapter by renovating our house. To that end, architects, consultants, and alumni were engaged to develop a needs assessment, architectural plans, and fundraising strategy. Our plans to update the structure include installing a full fire suppression system, renovating the kitchen and cafeteria, a complete remodel and redesign of the dormitory wing and bathrooms, installing central air conditioning and heating, adding a new event room, and much more. The redesigned space will room 69 members, with a presidential and vice presidential suites, and a renovated apartment for the housemother. In the coming weeks, you will receive additional information detailing the project and how you can help. Alumni who came before us provided the opportunity to join Phi Delta Theta, to live in the chapter house, and to develop the enduring friendships we cherish. Now is the time to join your brothers who have already made generous donations and ensure that the same Phi Delta Theta experience is available to future generations of men at the University of Missouri.
