And The Four th Little
Piggy Built His House
Out of Gingerbread
by JONITA SUTHERLAND
So you've never read the story about
the fourth little piggy and his house made
of gingerbread? Of course you haven't,
but the holiday season is the perfect time
to create your own story and memory. And
what is a better way to create memories
than to bond with your children or allow
your children to exercise their creativity?
For the fourth year in a row the
Cliffdale Public Library is hosting its
Gingerbread House Competition.
In the past, the event has drawn
some tough competition with individuals
and families vying for bragging rights.
The idea behind the competition is to
give families an event they can participate
in together. If shopping, cooking, deco-
rating and dusting off that lamp in the
guestroom for relatives has left you very
little time to spend with your family then
break out your apron(or keep on the one
you may be wearing right now) and get
a little messy and a little closer to your
children by building a gingerbread house.
The competition is separated into
age groups so that it can remain fair
and fun for your little ones. Parents if
you want to help little Timmy with his
masterpiece then there is also a family
category for you. In short, if the house is
entered as a child's entry, the work needs
to be done by the child. Otherwise, the
house should be entered in the family
category.
There will be story time in the
children's room to keep the tiny, curious
hands busy as you lay the foundation for
fun! There will be music and activities for
the entire family and if you just want to
be a spectator…there will be a ballot for
"Viewers Choice" award. You can't lose.
If there is a contest then there must
be a winner, each winner from each
category will receive a gift card from
Barnes and Noble Bookseller but, every
competitor age 12 and under will receive
a medal(AWESOME!) so everyone is a
winner. And if the medal and prize win-
ning isn't enough to get you into gear
think of all the frosting, sprinkles and
bonding that you will be missing out on if
you don't attend!
Every competition has to have rules
and the same is true with this one; please
feel free to contact Sana Moulder at the
Cliffdale Public Library or just drop in
for a list of rules and regulations. Sub-
missions must be in by Dec. 3 and the
competition will begin on Saturday Dec.
