"Of all the great operas, this is perhaps the greatest opera of all," said Ying Yeh, Department of Music faculty member and director of Opera Workshop. "It is the dia- mond in the crown of great operas." JUST MOVE IT Symphony performs for students "The Marriage of Figaro" or as it is also known, "The Day of Madness," was composed in 1786 by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. This four-act opera was initial- ly banned from being per- formed in Vienna because it blatantly satirized the aristocracy of the day. "It is a very audience- friendly opera with a delightful and tuneful overture and graceful, exquisite melodies," said Yeh. "No one should miss it -- it will be a great treat for people in Chico to see it in the small, intimate setting it is being present- ed in." Figaro's" plot is a contin- uation – a Part II if you will -- of another classic opera, "The Barber of Seville." It recounts, sev- eral years after the events of "The Barber of Seville" have transpired, a single day of "crazy madness" at the palace of Count Almaviva near Seville, Spain. The plot has many twists and turns. Chico State's produc- tion will feature a home- grown cast of "the best singers in town," said Yeh.
