3 news news news NU NU NU House Happenings By Housemother Sally Nixon I t's where we gather around the tables three times a day. It's where we share stories and laughter and form friendships that will last a lifetime. It's where we unite to conspire to change the world. It's spontaneous and unpredictable. Our dining room is a very special place. It's also where we welcome our families and friends. It is the first room that most of our visitors encounter with its proximity to the main entrance of the house. Given the frequent use and visibility our tables, chairs, and floor receive, it is time to replace them all! We are in high hopes that our alumni, families, and friends will take part in our Char-i-Table Floor-Raiser. I'd like to add that in the six years I've been here, the actives have filled the house to capacity with vital young men who continually strive to grow the fraternity and themselves. However, at present, we cannot seat all our members together because we don't have enough tables and chairs! So, let's lay it on the table: it takes hardy, commercial grade furniture and flooring to achieve a long life in a fraternity house as active as ours. Our costs are defined on quality, quantity, and durability. Please consider donating in one of the above amounts, or multiples! Additional information and donor instructions will be coming soon in a separate mailing, or you can send a donation to: Nu Chapter of Sigma Nu P.O. Box 7272 Kansas City, MO 64113 Memo: Chair-i-Table Floor-Raiser Thank you. I look forward to seeing you in our beautiful new dining room very soon! Sincerely, Sally Nixon Kyle Vann '67, Nu 1266, Appreciative of Sigma Nu Experience D uring his first two years at the University of Oklahoma, Kyle Vann '67, Nu 1266, lacked a sense of belonging. However, after transferring to KU and joining the Nu Chapter, he soon found a home in Lawrence. Kyle met several Sigma Nus the summer before his junior year. They convinced him to visit campus, and he was quite impressed by the newly renovated Governor's Mansion. Since then, Kyle has become a loyal Jayhawk, serving on the university's engineering advisory board and making frequent trips to Lawrence as a basketball season ticket holder. His undergraduate memories inspired Kyle to reconnect with the fraternity through the chapter's annual fundraising campaign. When presented with the opportunity to help future brothers live in a similar environment, he didn't hesitate. As a member of Nu Chapter, he had a formative experience that challenged him socially and encouraged him to engage with other campus leaders. These opportunities gave him the confidence to lead, which he carried throughout his life. During his career, Kyle spent 10 years at Exxon then transferred to Koch Industries, where he retired from full-time work in 2005. For the last 10 years, he has been consulting and serving on public and ministry boards. He also enjoys golfing and spending time with his nine grandchildren and one great- granddaughter. Kyle and his wife, Barbara, reside in Houston. He can be reached at vannk@swbell.net. It's the Heart of Our Home Cost Breakdown Item Cost Each Qty.
