NU NU NU news news news Official Alumni Newsletter of Nu Chapter of Sigma Nu Fraternity, Inc. Spring 2015 I t's been a busy few months around the Governor's Mansion! As you drive up the steep driveway off Emory Road, check out the repaired steps and sidewalks on the front of the house. Take time at the next alumni meeting, April 25, to stand on the new front porch, the repair of which also corrected some long-standing drainage issues. Project Updates As the weather warms and the campus turns green and beautiful, we will plant new grass and shrubs for our new sprinkler system to irrigate. We can make sure nothing bad happens to our new lawn or our parking lot by monitoring it with our newly-installed security camera system. Over the winter, the basement head and laundry room project started. The undergraduate brothers are thankful for the generous alumni support that made this much-needed renovation a reality. The next project is replacement of the dining room furniture and floor. I will leave details to Mom Sally's article on page 3, as she has spearheaded this project. E-Communications Program Introduced In addition to the infrastructure projects that are ongoing, we are rolling out a new, more reliable and efficient method of keeping in touch. We will contact you through e-mail blasts, and have an online alumni directory. This should improve communications and save some money! To do this, we need your current e-mail address. Please send an e-mail with your name, address, date of initiation, and Nu number to jchavez@penningtonco.com. We promise no spam! Undergraduates Excel The undergraduate chapter continues to amaze, amuse, and impress me. They make good grades, do incredible good deeds with their multiple philanthropies and volunteer work, and do their best to manage a huge, complex business venture while growing up in these challenging times. We alumni tend to rhapsodize about our "good old days" and may not realize what these men and the classes that preceded them the last seven years have done. They have brought back Sigma Nu to a place of respect on The Hill. They have accomplished that while overcoming some severe hardships and challenges as we all try to find the best course through new waters. When you see them, please thank them for all they do. Thankful for Support I must thank Mom Sally Nixon and Chapter Advisor Jordan Herbert '08, Nu 2199, for the hours, days, and weeks they have spent keeping things on track, under control, and helping me. I have huge admiration for them both. Also, we have a board of directors, with active and involved alumni, dedicated to keeping Sigma Nu atop The Hill! Once again, please send us your contact information. We hope to see you at the alumni reunion on April 25 to enjoy the KU campus in springtime and remember the good times at Sigma Nu! Exceeding Expectations Undergraduates Pursue All-Around Excellence Nu Initiates 27 New Members The previous executive board, along with the new executive board, is proud to announce that our chapter initiated 27 new members into our fraternity this spring. Academic Achievements Nu Chapter far exceeded our expectations with a 3.25 fall GPA, which was third out of all fraternities on campus. Nu Chapter's fall GPA was also over the all-fraternity average of 3.08 and the all-Greek average of 3.23. The chapter had 48 members with a GPA greater than 3.5 and of those members, 11 had a 4.0 GPA. I am also proud to announce that Nu Chapter had the highest new member GPA on campus, securing a 3.33 from a group of 32. This was also the highest number of new members among the fraternities. Recruitment Report In the fall, Nu Chapter is looking to sign 30 new candidates to be a part of the 2015 pledge class, and to live in the house. Recruitment Chairmen Lueke Anderson '13, Nu 2352, Zach Miller '14, Nu 2395, and Brad Ballou '14, Nu 2386 are working tirelessly to find the right men to fill these spots. In the short time they have been in their positions, they have already reached out to incoming and current freshmen from Kansas, Missouri, Texas, Illinois, Colorado, Oklahoma, and South Dakota.
