The Doctor Is In a STAFF REPORT A celebrity in the world of pool, Tom "Dr. Cue" Rossman, is com- ing to Fayetteville on Nov. 17. His agenda includes a trick-shot exhibition, several challenge matches and instructions sessions for American Poolplayers Association, or APA, league players throughout the Cape Fear region. Rossman has been performing trick-shot exhibitions for more than 25 years. He's won numer- ous awards including the World Masters Trick Shot Competition, the North American Professional Trick and Fancy Championship, The World Artistic Championship, the ESPN Trick-Shot Magic Competition, and is known as the "Doctor of Billiardology." The APA, based in Lake Saint Louis, Mo., sanctions the world's larg- est amateur pool league. It is known as the APA pool league throughout the United States, the Canadian Pool League in Canada and the Japanese Pool Players Association in Japan. More than 270,000 members compete in weekly 8-ball and 9-ball league play. The APA is generally recognized as the governing body of amateur pool. Having established the official rules, cham- pionships, formats and handicap systems for the sport of amateur billiards. The APA produces three major tournaments each year — the APA Dr. Cue National Team Championships, the APA National Singles Championships and the U.S. Amateur Championship — that together pay out nearly $1.5 million in cash and prizes annually. The APA and it's national championships are sponsored by Pool Dawg, Aramith Billiard Balls and Action Cues.
