"On a scale of one to ten, it's an eleven," said Kris Behrens, orga- nizer and director of support ser- vices at Dignity Health, as pop music boomed near the finish line. "It's been just a really, re- ally fun event." The Color Dash 5K run and walk held at Corning High School drew an estimated 300 people, and organizers had a goal of raising about $4,000 to $5,000 to go toward scholarships, Beh- rens said. The scholarships, she said, will go to college-bound student-ath- letes, but the awards will not be tied to any specific field of study. The goal, Behrens said, is to award scholarships to high school students in Red Bluff, Corning and Los Molinos. The city of Corning cele- brated the month of February as National Girls and Women in Sports Month. Beth Birk of the Tehama County Safe Education and Recreation for Rural Fami- lies program and Lauren Price, a Corning High School student and SERRF student ambassador, accepted the city's proclamation last month. At the fun run, SERRF stu- dent ambassadors on hand said the event promoted physical ac- tivity and brought the commu- nity together. "I wasn't really looking for- ward to getting dirty," said Ryan Gamboa, a Red Bluff High School junior and SERRF ambassador. "I did it. The colors are every- where, but it's been fun. Every- body seems to be having a good time." "Many of them started re- hearsing that night," she told family and friends during a 3 p.m. show. The actors had a week to pre- pare for two Saturday perfor- mances.
