StaffReports REDDING RedBluffandCorn- ing were both knocked out of the Northern Section girls bas- ketball playoffs Tuesday night, a game short of a return trip to their respective finals. The Lady Spartans dressed just six players and lost 67-45 at Shasta in the Division-III semifinals. Daisy Brose sat out of the game after receiving a concus- sion in Red bluff's first-round win over Oroville. Shasta blew open the game in the second quarter and led 43-18 by halftime. Red Bluff finished an injury- riddled season 15-12. Coach Kathy Brandt said the 15 wins were impressive for a team that overachieved. Corning fell 63-52 at Ander- son in the Division-IV semifi- nals. Whitney Armstrong led the Lady Cardinals with 14 points. Baylie Fryar had 10 points and Kaylee Shoemaker had nine. Fryar also had three assists and three steals. Gates Fears had six points, Sophia Oliverez had five, Grace Mora four points and Emerie Eller and Mariah Castle each had two points. The Lady Cardinals finished the season 18-8. Tony Parker added 19 points and three assists while guiding the Spurs to 53 percent shoot- ing. San Antonio had five play- ers in double figures and every- one scored. The Spurs got off to a fast start in their first home game since returning from their an- nual rodeo road trip. The team for years has been forced out of their home court for much of February because the AT&T Center hosts a rodeo. Leonard made his first three attempts, including a 3-pointer on a catch-and-shoot that gave the Spurs a 9-2 lead. Corry, a senior midfielder, led the Lady Spartans with 16 goals. She also had three assists. Teammate Jordan Vazquez, an- other senior midfielder, received an honorable mention. Vazquez led the Lady Spartans with nine assists and scored four goals. Zepeda, a senior forward, helped lead the Red Bluff boys to the Division 1 semifinals. Senior goalkeeper Jose Castello and sophomore forward Kevin Meza received honorable men- tions for Red Bluff. Buster Posey got off to a strong start as he dou- bled in two runs and walked in his first appearance of the spring. But Josh Reddick had three hits and drove in a pair of runs in leading the Oakland Athletics to a 9-2 victory over the San Fran- cisco Giants on Wednesday.
