First, the Grand Opening Celebration is going to be a can't-miss event. We have a stellar group of volunteers, led by Chairman Joff Moine '96 and Vice-Chair Joe Blizzard '14, and committee chairmen ranging from young alumni, like Drew Dulle '12, to our elder statesman Phil Shepardson '68. The weekend will consist of three events starting on Friday night with a Cincinnati-themed reunion and special initiation ceremony at the house. Saturday will consist of a late- morning ribbon cutting and dedication ceremony and a huge celebration banquet complete with dinner, music, and dancing! Mark your calendars for May 15-16; and keep an eye on the postal mail, e-mail, chapter website, and our Facebook page for more information. You can find the latest information on the grand opening weekend at http://ucsigep.org/grand-opening. Now that the major construction is complete, we have started using the expanded wing for living and chapter purposes; Dr. Jeff Bauer '88 is teaching University credited macro-economics to the brothers, our new cook is making home-cooked meals for the brothers, and the chapter meetings are full and lively in the new chapter room! It's a fantastic house but we are still looking to make improvements. Over Christmas break, we finished painting the library and the formal room to give it a consistent look with the new addition. I'm happy to say that we had a nice mix of alumni volunteers working alongside the undergraduates to complete the spruce-up in record time. Thanks to alumni Rich Evans '87, Dave Wenzel '06, Dirk Franz '01, Mike Dillon '99, Ric Sweeney '11, and Dean Lutton '01 for lending a helping hand. Additionally, we would like to revisit some of the renovations that we pushed back as we monitored fundraising progress and stayed vigilant to stay on budget. These areas are serviceable but frankly pale in comparison to the new part of the house and need some TLC, including the pool room ceiling, old library dry- walling, and back porch concrete repair. That's where closing out the fundraising effort comes in. Every donation will bring us closer to our goal and provide funds to complete these improvement areas and leave the chapter and AVC in a strong financial position. We are at a point where we are looking for increased participation so if you have taken a "wait and see" approach to this project, now is the time to step up and support this great and strong chapter.
