The Chili Shootout at Tyson Wells will start at 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Chili cooks from the CASA (Chili Ap- preciation Society of Arizona) will be arriving to challenge each other for the trophies, with 10 prize places for red chili (CASI rules), and there will also be prizes for Showmanship. This is a CASI (Chili Appreciation Society International) sanc- tioned event, and the judges will declare the winners at around 2 p.m. There will also be a spe- cial cookoff for People's Choice Chili, where any kind of chili is eligible, and chili cooks from local towns are welcome to en- ter as well as the CASA cooks if they wish. The People's Choice entrants must have at least 5 gallons of chili to hand out to the people who purchase tast- ing cups and the winner is de- termined by votes cast by those tasting all the samples of chili. This contest will have three big prizes--First prize is for $1000, second prize is $500, and third prize is $250 (plus bragging rights of course). Cost to enter the People's Choice contest is $20. unless you are a CASA en- trant where $25 will enter you in both competitions. Applications to enter the cookoff and rules are available on line at www.facebook.com/ quartzsiterotarychilicookoff or by calling 928-927-6111. All proceeds from the sales of the tasting cups with help the Ro- tary with projects in Quartzsite. There is still time for you chili cooks to enter this contest for the big prizes, so get your en- try in as soon as possible to be included in this fi rst cookoff sponsored by the Quartzsite Ro- tary. If you are not able to enter, please come out to the cookoff and try some of the best chili in the southwest!! The second event that the Rotary has planned for Feb. 28 is a special concert at the Q.I.A. that features the music of some of the greatest country singers you know and love. Called the "Legends of Country Music" this 2 hour concert honors the people who made country music one of the most popular kinds of music in the country. Singers like George Strait, Patsy Cline, Johnny Cash, Marty Robbins, and many more will have their music played in this award win- ning concert which also features a tribute to the military. The doors will open at 3:30 p.m. and the show starts at 4:30 p.m. Tickets for the show are on sale at the Q.I.A., Hori- zon Community Bank, and the Quartzsite Business Chamber of Commerce and are $20 per per- son at the door also. Call 928- 927-6111 for more information. This is a once in the long time concert, and hopefully will be so successful that it will return again sometime!
