Tehama County Sheriff's Deputies were called to the park- ing lot in front of Mill Creek Restaurant on Highway 99E about 3 p.m. Sunday after it was reported Travis Lloyd Kevie was kicking his horse. Kevie had been riding the horse in the parking lot and had become angry with it, allegedly kicking it before walking away and leaving the horse unattended and unsecured near Kevie See HORSE, page 7A Nude hotel guest taken into custody CORNING — Corning Police arrested a man Friday morning who was reportedly w alking around nude at the Best West- ern hotel, 910 Highway 99W, in Corning. Car-jacking suspect arrested A 28-year-old Red Bluff man was arrested Friday during a traffic stop in the area of Robinson and Walnut streets in connection with a car-jacking incident. Joseph Victor Davis, also known as Davis Joe, was booked into Tehama County Jail on the charges of felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition, car jack- ing, robbery, assault with a firearm and armed with firearm during commission of a crime, said Sher- iff's Lt. Dave Greer. Bail was set at $265,000. Sheriff's logs show a report by CHP of a man calling 911 to report at 12:27 a.m. Friday he had met a person known to him and had his vehicle stolen at gun point. The vehicle, a white 1985 Ford Tempo, which had no rear window, was last seen heading toward Walnut Street. Medical was requested for an injury and a stolen vehicle, assault with a deadly weapon and a car-jacking report was taken. Davis The vehicle was found Friday by police on Johnson Street. Sheriff's logs lists three victims including Richard Endres, 52, Daniel Endres, 27, and Christina Ortega, 31. Nothing further was available. Shasta deputy recovering from suspect fight MILLVILLE (AP) — A Shasta County sheriff's deputy is recovering from a fight with a suspect who allegedly tried to wrestle away his gun over the weekend. The Record Search- light of Redding (http://bit.ly/vGiAO4) reports that the deputy was responding to a call Sunday morning that 27- year-old Joshua Ruja threatened to kill his fam- ily. Officials say Deputy Brian Jackson initially tried subduing Ruja with a stun gun, but that didn't work. Ruja allegedly then grabbed for Jackson's gun as they fought. Jackson eventually gained control and arrest- ed Ruja on suspicion of making terrorist threats, obstructing and battering a deputy. Sunday's incident 7 5 8 5 5 1 6 9 0 0 1 9 came five days after a deputy fatally shot 26- year-old James Jobe, who was found beating another deputy with a baton along Interstate 5. The injured deputy required 26 staples to close a head wound. Daily News photo by Andrea Wagner The Tehama County Sheriff's Department received a CASSPIR 4X4 Tactical Vehicle Tuesday donated by a military warehouse. The vehicle, built to travel safely through mine fields, may be used for flood rescues and other events in the county. By ANDREA WAGNER DN Staff Writer Something like a street-legal tank, a mili- tary behemoth arrived at the Tehama County Sheriff 's Department parking lot Tuesday. The CASSPIR 4X4 tactical vehicle is a 20- seat, armored truck that was built originally in South Africa to drive through mine fields. Sheriff Dave Hencratt asked the Board of Supervisors for approval to accept the donation at Tuesday's meeting. The vehicle was orig- inally valued at about $300,000, Hencratt said. Joseph Kelly Ward, Sr., 44, of Manton, was already dressed when officers con- tacted him, however, wit- nesses pointed him out as the nudist, a police press release said. While Ward was being questioned by officers, it was discovered that he was under the influence of a controlled substance and he was placed under arrest. Of f icers found 0.1 grams of methamphet- amine in Ward's pant pocket. He was booked into Tehama County Jail for being under the influence of and in pos- session of a controlled sub- stance.
