"The city is continuing to move in a positive direction in a fairly negative economy," said Donald Reynolds, the city auditor, in a presentation to the City Coun- cil on Tuesday. "None of us has a crystal ball to see what's go- ing to happen this year, but at least you've managed to bar the door against what's happened to a lot of cities over the last several CORNING Ci ty , co un ci l commended fo r fin an ci al stewardship By Andre Byik abyik@redbluffdailynews.com @andrebyik on Twitter RED BLUFF A Red Bluff woman was displaced after the motor home she was living in caught fire Thursday morning. Red Bluff firefighters re- sponded about 6:40 a.m. to a re- port of a fire in the backyard of a home at 515 Johnson St., near Oak Street, Fire Chief Ray Barber said. Firefighters found heavy smoke in the area and a motor home that was "well involved." Red Bluff police and emergency personnel responded about 2 p.m. to a report of a traffic collision in- volving a Subaru Legacy and a Chevrolet S10 pickup. A woman driving the Subaru was westbound on Antelope Boulevard when a man driving the pickup appeared to have at- tempted a left turn off Antelope Boulevard toward Trinity Ave- nue, driving into the path of the oncoming Subaru, said Red Bluff police Sgt. Kevin Busekist. Both the pickup and Subaru sustained major front-end dam- age, and the woman was taken to St. Elizabeth Community Hospi- tal after complaining of neck and back pain, Busekist said. The names and ages of those involved were not im- mediately available. The man driving the pickup was unhurt, and a male passen- ger in the Subaru also was not in- jured, Busekist said. Neither alcohol nor drugs ap- peared to be a factor in the crash, Busekist said. Westbound traffic on Antelope Boulevard was slowed for about an hour as the roadway was swept of debris and the vehicles were taken off the road. The roadway was cleared about 3 p.m. RED BLUFF 1injuredinAntelopecollision Awoman was hurt in a two-vehicle crash Thursday a ernoon on Antelope Boulevard at Trinity Avenue in Red Bluff. ANDRE BYIK โ€” DAILY NEWS By Rich Greene rgreene@redbluffdailynews.com @richgreenenews on Twitter RED BLUFF It was hard to tell who was squealing more Thursday afternoon, the pig or those who volunteered to kiss it as part of a charity drive at Red Bluff Union High School. As part of the school's fifth annual "Think Pink" week, to raise awareness and donations for the prevention of breast cancer, the school held a Coins for Cancer competition. The event pitted the boys versus the girls with the gender that raised the least amount of loose change having three of their own gut it up and kiss a pig during Thursday's lunch hour. Altogether the students and staff raised $300 that will be donated to the St. Elizabeth Imaging Center, but the girls raised the most funds โ€” $190 of the end total. That mean boys basketball coach and teacher Stan Twitch- ell and basketball standouts Joseph Bosetti and Will Mac- donald had to pucker up for the pig. The three donned lipstick for good measure and kissed the swine across the face. In the end good sportsman- ship prevailed as girls basket- ball coach Kathy Brandt and standout Lady Spartans Daisy Brose and Allison Winning went ahead and kissed the pig as well. Thursday night the Lady Spartans hosted Enterprise, and more fundraisers and activities were scheduled as part of the "Think Pink" fes- tivities.
