2 Delta Kappa Epsilon CHAPTER HIGHLIGHTS DKE Thrives at the University of Alabama Executive Council Offers Positive Outlook for Psi's Future I 'll start off by saying what an honor it has been to be able to serve as Brother Beta over the past two semesters at the DKE house. It is safe to say that we have continued to sustain our great reputation and remain the pinnacle fraternity at the University of Alabama. Dr. Hebson, the dean of students at UA and PSI DKE's chapter advisor, stated the other day "I have been extremely impressed with the Psi Chapter this fall. The president and officers have communicated in a timely fashion and initiated a great pledge class. The man did a super job with pledgeship. Very proud of Psi!" On that note I'll say I could not have asked for a better group of officers to be surrounded by during my term. Our officers did way more than they were asked of and put forth prodigious effort in every task they were involved with. CHAPTER HOUSE UPGRADES The Psi executive council has continued to keep the state of the chapter house as one of the chapter's highest priorities. This year, we were able to upgrade the televisions in both the parlor and party rooms. Brothers have really enjoyed utilizing the larger, up-to-date televisions during their spare time around the house. Psi's cherished composite collection has also been updated and organized, as many older composites made their way from storage to available wall space around the house. Other small projects include a re-felted pool table, basement television sound, and an updated House Mother's Suite. JUDICIAL BOARD It has been another outstanding year for the Judicial Board and its members. It is safe to say that risk management is in great standings with not only our fraternity, but with the university and faculty members as well. The J-board saw a very small number of cases this semester and we look forward to another strong year. FINANCIAL The financial situation of the Psi Chapter is in very good standing. With taking in the largest pledge class in Psi history, we had more collections than ever before. Also, we once again stayed under budget which will allow us to continue our house improvements. With the ever increasing number of members in the chapter, we look forward to the new opportunities that this brings. CHAPTER INCREASES PHILANTHROPIC EFFORTS This semester, DKE has been involved in great philanthropy events across campus. We started out the year donating to and participating in Zeta Tau Alpha's Breast Cancer awareness flag football tournament. We then supported the NPHC at their annual gala while donating to the Birmingham Ronald McDonald House. The Gala raised over $10,000 for the night and DKE was proud to be a part of the event. We also got involved with the local chapter of Groove Phy Groove, donating $300 and volunteering at their events. G Phy G is a local organization that helps inner-city kids learn about Christ and builds a better path for their future. We closed out the year participating in KA's Relay for Life and Alpha Chi's 'walk a mile in her shoes' events. Both projects were huge successes with the help of DKE's involvement. The Psi Chapter can look back on this semester and be proud of the philanthropy events and donations we were apart of. ACADEMICS This year the DKE overall fraternity GPA has remained above a 3.0 which is a great way to make us look good on campus. We are in the top five of IFC (Greek male) in grade point average and that has helped us attain things that we have, like good football seats. Our GPA is also well above that of the all-male GPA for the university. Programs like our study hall have been helpful in maintaining this GPA standing which is a very important value to us. SOCIAL SCENE Socially this past semester has been great. We had many events during game day weekends that had very large turnouts from Greek individuals. We hosted joint parties as well as solo parties and partnered with all the old row fraternities for the annual Monster Formal. We held our annual Christmas Cocktail at the Red Shed on the Strip and the 3 Wisemen performed the hilarious roast that everyone looks forward to. Once again I would like to thank all of our officers for the hard work they have displayed to help make everything happen this term. With that being said I feel that the chapter has elected a great new executive committee and I look forward to seeing their leadership during my last few months I have in the house before I transition into the real world. To conclude I will say farewell and once again what a positive and invaluable experience I have had during my time being Brother Beta. Jarrod Lesso '16, Christopher Wilkins '16, Reid Shearer '16, and Jeffrey Kintz '16 at the 2014 football game against LSU. The chapter had a great time at football weekends this year and hosted many game day events.
