Orville Knox issued his for- mal resignation by letter Mon- day to City Manager Richard Crabtree. "Please accept his letter as my formal resignation that I am leaving my position with the City of Red Bluff City Council ef- fective immediately. (Due) to my health and wellbeing I cannot fulfill all the commitments that (are) required of me as a Coun- cilmember," the letter reads in its entirety. Knox was sworn into office less than two months ago on Dec. 2, 2014. He edged Councilwoman Dan- iele Jackson by 10 votes to be the leading vote getter in the No- vember election, finishing with 1,468 votes. Two weeks later Knox joined with Jackson and Councilman Rob Schmid to appoint Suren Patel to the seat left vacant by the resignation of Raymond Eliggi Oct. 28, 2014, for health reasons. Eliggi passed away Dec. 28, 2014. Eliggi had been appointed in August 2013 to replace Rob- ert Sheppard Jr., who resigned seven months after taking office. The City Council has 60 days from the date of a resignation to appoint a new member or call for a special election. Crabtree told the Daily News he plans to ask the City Coun- cil at its Feb. 3 meeting to au- thorize the city to advertise for the position. Under that time schedule the City Council would make its ap- pointment choice at either its March 3 or March 17 meeting.
