Well ... great. What are we going to watch until then? Director James Cam- eron told the Associated Press on Wednesday that writing three "Ava- tar" sequels is such a complex job he's delaying the first new film a year. Does James Cameron make anyone feel like a serious underachiever? The "Titanic" director plans to film the sequels all at once, then release the three films over con- secutive years. The first was due in late 2016, but Cameron now says the writing process proved to be "very involved" and the initial date was prob- ably too ambitious. — Compiled by Tony Hicks, Bay Area News Group Star report 1547 Ivan IV of Russia (popu- larly known as "Ivan the Terrible") was crowned Czar. 1865 Union Maj. Gen. Wil- liam T. Sherman issued Special Field Order No. 15, which decreed that 400,000acres of land in South Carolina, Georgia and Florida would be confiscated, divided into 40-acre lots and given to former slaves. (The order, which was later revoked by President Andrew Johnson, is believed to have inspired the expres- sion, "Forty acres and a mule.") 1883 The U.S. Civil Service Commission was estab- lished. 1920 Prohibition began in the United States as the 18th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution took effect, one year to the day a er its ratification.
