Cape Fear Valley Health Services T here is nothing more important to the health of a community than, well, the community's health. Fayetteville's Cape Fear Valley Health, the state's ninth-largest health system, prides itself on providing the same specialized healthcare services nor- mally found in much larger cities. The specialty services available through Cape Fear Valley Health, which range from high-tech cancer treatment and the latest in robotic surgery, to nationally accredited cardi- ac surgery and neonatal care services, mean that area residents can get the treatments they need right here at home, said Vincent Benbenek, the Health System's vice president of marketing and outreach. This fall Cape Fear Valley Health's cancer treatment capability will add a CyberKnife Robotic Radiosurgery System, Benbenek said. It's a non-invasive alternative to surgery and is pain-free and without any incisions. Cape Fear Valley Health has also begun using the da Vinci Surgical System, another high-tech, minimally invasive surgery option. Human operators use the da Vinci robot's unique, probe-like arms to enter the patient through half-inch incisions. The smaller inci- sions allow for less pain, less bleeding and faster healing. Having a sick child places tremendous stress on a family and our region's youngest patients benefit from a dedicated eight-bed Our region's youngest patients benefit from being able to receive Pediatric Intensive Care and Neonatal Intensive Care right here in Fayetteville. Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) and a 44- bed Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), of- fering medical care to critically injured or ill children. The attending team includes board- certified neonatologists, as well as neonatal nurse practitioners. Cape Fear Valley Health's premier spe- cialty service is its Cleveland Clinic-affiliated cardiac surgery program. Cleveland Clinic is home to the nation's premiere heart program, which has been ranked number one in the country for 17 consecutive years. "These and various other specialty ser- vices Cape Fear Valley Health offers allow the health system to provide quality healthcare to residents of southeastern North Carolina who want treatment closer to home," Ben- benek said.
