Fayetteville Young Professionals F ayetteville Young Professionals, more commonly known as FYP, has grown to almost 500 members in just two short years. FYP is a membership division of the Fayetteville—Cumberland County Cham- ber of Commerce, designed to provide opportunities for young professionals to develop the skills they need to succeed in their chosen profession. As an organized group, the Fayette- ville Young Professionals have made the city's business leadership take note of everything professionals in the 20 to 40 age group have to offer. The group has "It's cliché to say it, but FYP has changed my life," said Charlie Allen, last year's president. "I have never been a part of a group that has been as reward- ing. While the new friends, parties, ath- letic activities and professional develop- ment opportunities have all been really fun, being a part of a group that also has so much impact on the community has been unexpectedly satisfying." In today's busy world FYP makes it easy to stay informed of organizational happenings through Facebook. H $2,000 6 FYP Meet Ups allow 20 to 40 year old professionals to have fun while networking and socializing. also garnered attention through service projects like Fayetteville Beautiful and through giving to the Salvation Army. "Meet-Ups" are always popular with FYPers. These successful events have drawn a diverse group of members and hosting Meet-Ups at different loca- tions provides a broader view of the community. The Lunch and Learn series of events have also continued to grow, with an av- erage of 40 people attending each one and featuring speakers who range from top-ranking officers at Fort Bragg to lo- cal industry leaders. (x-30) Beginning in 2014, companies with more than 50 employees that do not offer health coverage will have to pay a penalty of $2,000 times the number of full-time employees minus 30. That's one of the stipulations of the PPACA (Health Care Reform act) that will be phased in over the next several years.
