Ch k d il i l Julie and TJ Julie and TJ Business Profile: Mi Hwa's Salon & Spa by STEPHANIE CRIDER STEPHANIE CRIDER, Staff Writer COMMENTS? 484-6200 ext. 222 or Stephanie@upandcomingweekly.com Mi Hwa Allen came to the U.S. in 1979 from Korea. She opened a small business in her home in 1983 called Mi Hwa's and has been healing, pampering and educating Fayetteville ever since. Over the years, Allen has acquired a long list of accreditation's that cover many facets of the aesthetics industry including pediatric and infant massage, cosmetology, and optimal body mechanics to name a few — and she's not afraid to use them. In fact, she is involved in all of the services provided at her establishment. "I do everything," said Allen. "I do hair, massages, facials, manicures, pedicures — I have all the licenses and training." Once her son grew up and joined the mili- tary, she moved out into the community and began serving her customers from a small shop on Owen Dr. "I try to help the local people to relax and to help a lot of people who have sickness and stuff," said Allen. "And to keep them beautiful." Apparently she's done that quite well as she is now opening in a new and bigger location at 260 Robeson St. Mi Hwa's Salon & Spa and Therapeutic Massage Center offers everything from body scrubs, massages and manicures and pedicures to reflexol- ogy, herbal ear cone treatment, haircuts and herbal body masks. The new location is 5,200 square feet and has six booths, three massage rooms, two facial stations, a three chair pedicure room, an herbal tea bar and a yoga studio — plenty of room to relax and be made to feel spe- cial and welcome. "This is not just an Asian spa, we have a multicultural salon," said Allen. "I work side by side with people of every color, and we serve everyone." Allen keeps the atmosphere friendly and has designed the spa in accordance with the Yin Yang five element concept. Yin Yang scholars believe that there are two natural com- plementary and contradictory forces in the universe that are always struggling to find balance. These same scholars also believe that the universe consists of five basic elements which are metal, water, fire and earth. Everything, including people have a relationship with the elements and keeping them in balance is key to peace and stability. With more than 25 years of experience in serving Fayetteville, Allen still loves her job, not just because of the variety but in large part because of the people who frequent her shop. "I like all of it, I guess it is because I am doing so many things — I never get bored," she said. "But my favorite thing is my clients." Allen credits her success and good fortune in Fayetteville to hard work. "Work hard and you can always get what you want," said Allen. "America is really a place where dreams can come true." Mihwa's is open 9 a.m. - 9 p.m. Monday through Friday and 10 a.m. - 3 p.m. on Saturday. Appointments can be made through the web site http://www.mihwas. com or by calling the salon at 423-4466.
