Mozart's "Don Giovanni," Set in the Appalachian Mountains of eastern Ten- nessee, the opera tells the story of the violent amoral gang leader, Captain Johnny, and his eventual punishment. CHRISTMAS LIGHTS Holiday Express guided bus tour The Red Bluff Master- works Chorale and Orches- tra will perform the Christ- mas portion of Messiah, by George F. Handel, in the Chapel of the New Clair- vaux Monastery in Vina at 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 14. The Red Bluff Master- works Chorale, under the direction of Steve Ackley, has been singing Messiah in Tehama County since 1996. Members of the chorale and orchestra come from Tehama and Shasta coun- ties. In weekly rehearsals the singers work to prepare music from the master com- posers of the classical era and contemporary writers. This concert will be ac- companied by a 20-piece or- chestra and will feature lo- cal choral soloists. The con- cert will open with several Christmas anthems based on famous Christmas car- ols. The Messiah is from the Baroque era and was com- posed in 24 days. The text is taken from the Old and New Testaments and tells of the prophecy, birth, ministry, death, resurrec- tion and exaltation of Je- sus Christ. This concert will present the Christmas por- tion of the work telling of the prophecy and birth of Jesus. The concert will end with the Amen Chorus. There are no tickets nec- essary for this concert. CONCERT Merle Haggard to perform The Tehama Concert Se- ries is proud to present the North State Symphony's annual Holiday Christmas Concert at 7:30 p.m. Satur- day, Dec. 13, at the State Theatre in Red Bluff. Joining the Baroque Ensemble segment of the Symphony will be the 2014 Young Artist Audition win- ners Ellanore Rose Lund- berg, flute, and Ryan Mc- Gaughey on piano. The program in- cludes Lalande's Christ- mas Symphony, Vaughan Williams Fantasia on "Greensleeves." Also featured will be a Mozart concerto on the State Theatre's new Schimmel grand piano.
