Red Bluff beat tournament host Argonaut 80-68 Saturday. On Friday Red Bluff beat Lo- di's Elliot Christian in a shoot- out 104-102. The Spartans opened the tournament with a 74-60 win over Amador. Red Bluff (4-0) travels to the Arcata Invitational Thurs- day, where they open up play against Eureka. CORNING 41, WILLIAMS 39 Corning edged Pierce 41-39 Friday in the championship game of the Pierce Tourna- ment. Alex Davila had 13 points to lead the Cardinals and scored the game-winning bucket. Jesse Bennett had 10 points. Manuel Garcia added seven points and Nathan Peter had five. Erik Rios, Chance Nelson and Wyatt Haydon each had two points. Nelson grabbed nine re- bounds and had five steals. Bennett, Garcia and Davila each had three steals. Corning (4-0) is at Las Plu- mas 7:30 p.m. tonight. Curry missed six of his seven 3-point attempts, but the top-ranked Warriors' defense forced the short-handed Tim- berwolves to shoot 36 percent and turn the ball over 19 times to improve to an NBA-best 18- 2. Klay Thompson added 21 points and the Warriors left holding their breath after An- drew Bogut left with a knee in- jury early in the first quarter. The Warriors called it "right knee irritation" and deemed his return to the game ques- tionable, but he watched the rest from the bench. Red Bluff opened up play Fri- day with a 5-0 win against Yreka. They finished play Friday with a 6-0 win over hosts Oroville. KK Gibson had a hat trick in the win and Alyssa Shank, Ceighlee Fennel Christina Zum- alt also scored. Jordan Vazquez provided two assists. Zumalt, Alyssa Mena and Mikenna Corry also provided helpers. Cheyenne Houghtby was cred- ited with the clean sheet. Red Bluff beat Lassen 2-0 Sat- urday behind goals from Vazquez and Corry. Now Brandon Moss has to provide it. Cleveland finalized a trade — the first of the winter meetings — that has been in the works for weeks on Monday by acquiring Moss, a first baseman/outfielder and All-Star last season, from the Oakland Athletics for minor league infielder Joey Wendle. The 31-year-old Moss batted .234 with a 25 homers and 81 RBIs in a career-high 147 games for the A's. The left-handed hitter drew 67 walks and scored 70 runs. Moss hit .268 with 21 homers in the first half of the season to earn his first All-Star selection, but a nagging hip problem cut into his production over the final months. On Oct. 21, Moss underwent an operation performed in Nashville by Dr. Thomas Byrd.
