Campaign Chairman report Page 7 Φ Δ Θ Alumni Enjoy Reconnecting at Homecoming "I thought the Phi Delt part of the Homecoming came off extremely well. The welcome at The Castle was warm, the food excellent, as always, and the programs well planned and executed. I can't remember a time when the alumni visitors seemed more at home and enjoying themselves. Chris' tailgate and the program at MHCC all fit together nicely. To the House Corporation and the Chapter lads, a resounding well done!"—Skip Kappes '45 "The physical house looks so pristine now. I have never seen it looking better. Also, I was impressed by the caliber of the present Chapter members. That the Chapter went from nothing just a few years ago to such a strong group of Phis, it's incredible. I can only imagine how much effort was put in to achieve these results. Lastly, the marble plaque that was unveiled at the Meridian Hills ceremony was a wonderful surprise. I never imagined that we would be honored by a marble plaque in the Castle. It really moved me."—Steve Petross '68 "Thank you for all you've done to rebuild our Chapter House and our fraternity!" —Stan Phariss '72 "Great job on everything."—Jay Ruklic '73 "Great job on Homecoming weekend!" —Jim Nau '74 "Thanks for a great Homecoming day!" —Kurt Hunt '79 "Brothers, Great to see all at Homecoming, we have aged well! The house looks awesome; I'm very proud and pleased for all going on 705 West Hampton Drive. Also, I appreciate the SILVER recognition. Hard to believe that Hell Week was 37 years ago! Thanks to Chris for the tailgate, as always you put on an awesome party." —Richard C. Bedan, RPh '81 "What a lovely invitation and what a great program of Homecoming events." —Maribeth Fischer (Butler '74) daughter of Rees E. Zay '52. D uring the capital campaign celebration, campaign Chairman Stan Cuppy '78 provided a state of the Chapter and capital campaign review. Highlights from those remarks are below for those Brothers not able to attend. 1. Business Plan Summary We met our five-year business plan: achieving our two objectives of re-establishing Indiana Gamma on the Butler campus and achieving positive cash flow from undergraduate operations in year four of our five-year goal. 2. Capital Campaign Overachieves, Reaches $1.11 Million We had to perform like a large fraternity market segment though we are considered a medium- sized fraternity. In essence, we had to play up weight class if we were going to reach our $1 million capital campaign goal. • A large fraternity market segment is considered to have more than 2,500 alumni and can typically achieve $1 to $5 million in a typical campaign. Indiana Gamma has 886 active alumni, and raised more than $1.1 million. • A large fraternity market segment can expect to have 25% participation from all alumni in their capital campaign. Indiana Gamma achieved 32% participation. • Cash collected against pledges is at 89%. We are forecasting collecting the remaining $118,000 over the next few years, or 100% of commitments from alumni. 3. Physical Updates Made to Chapter House • The Chapter House has been rehabbed, restored, and modernized on time and under budget while maintaining the original architectural look and feel of the structure. • We removed the interior to the outer walls, repurposed and better utilized existing interior space, strengthened the building and hauled away over 100 tons of debris. • Updates to the house include a new roof, windows, updated electrical and plumbing fixtures, fire-safety system, modernized kitchen, wireless Internet access, onsite laundry, extensive landscaping and repaired, replaced, cleaned exterior stone façade. • We were named one of the first "green fraternity" designations in the country, 2010 contractor historical restoration award winner, and considered one of the best Chapter House structures in the country by a national undergraduate fraternity publication. 4. Undergraduate Chapter Continues to Thrive • Indiana Gamma is a thriving and at-capacity Chapter that averages more than 100+ members and consistently has one of the top GPA on campus. • Members are now proud stewards of the historically significant and architecturally cool landmark building in the heart of a beautiful campus setting again. • Chapter won the 2014 chariot race and Homecoming competition. They have set their sights on being No. 1 in Fraternity GPA and are looking to win the General Headquarters Kansas Trophy as the most outstanding Phi Delt Chapter on a small campus. 5. Scholarships Awarded to Deserving Brothers Financial scholarship programs promote academic success and are presented to undergraduate members because of the gifts from alumni and friends. In 2014, undergraduate members will be recipients of more than $20,000 in Indiana Gamma designated scholarships. • Whole Man Scholarships—courtesy of Ted Lowrie '71 and Craig Fenneman '71. We are putting a package together to make this particular WMS a win/ win to alumni interested in participating. Please call Stan Cuppy '78 for more information at (317)590-4015. 6. The Future—What's Next? Given our continued success as a large and thriving Chapter on campus now, our thoughts turn to long-range planning that includes scaling up our live-in capacity with plans for an "architecturally correct" and modern addition by 2020. Butler undergraduate student population continues to grow and we need to keep pace to remain competitive as a valued on-campus residential offering. Our work as alumni is not yet done. To learn about how you can continue to support Indiana Gamma Chapter, please read the article on page 10 announcing our annual campaign to scale the number of Indiana Gamma undergraduate recipients and financial amounts in the future regarding scholarship support.
