Gonzalez plans to attend the University of California, Berke- ley. Her other awards and recognitions include Math Student of the Year, Honor Roll, Hero Historian, Perfect Attendance and Greenhand FFA Degree. Presenting the award is Super- intendent of Schools Larry Champion. The Red Bluff FFA held its first chapter meeting for the year on Wednesday, Sept. 7. During the meeting the new 2011-2012 offi- cers were introduced. Members were informed about the proper attire to wear when attending any FFA event, and it was announced members will be selling FFA Hats for $10 as a fundraiser to pay for conferences they will be attending throughout the year. There was a discussion of upcoming events, including the first field day, which will be held Oct. 13 at Shasta College. On Sept. 18, the chapter officers will be Students visit tractor dealer going to the Chapter Officer Leadership Con- ference for two days at Camp Tehama to learn leadership skills and to become better chapter officers. Following the meeting, there was a barbecue for over 200 members and parents. The Red Bluff FFA has been holding their annual Back to School Barbecue for over 20 years to kick off each new year. Thanks to downtown Red Bluff busi- nesses, including Discover Earth, Plum Crazy, Prairie Rose and Wink, the 11th annual Tehama County Student Art Con- test has increased its Best of Show award to $100. Many other great prizes will be awarded to the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners in each of four grade divisions on Oct. 8. This year's theme is "Cosmic Wonders" and Tehama County students in grades K-12 are encouraged to partic- ipate. Forms were sent to each Tehama County school in August. The deadline for entry submission is 4 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 27, to Sacred Heart School in Red Bluff. Entries will be dis- played at the Tehama District Fairground Home Arts Building on Saturday, Oct. 8 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. At noon there will be an artists reception officiated by Veni- ta Philbrick and Mayor Bob Carrel, where winners will be announced and prizes awarded. Entries will be judged by the Red Bluff Art Association on originality and creativity. The winning entries will be matted by the Big Picture; the Best of Show will be matted and framed.
