Unfortunately, one of them isn't by contin- ually replacing a perfectly good item that has been lost or misplaced. Our first read- er shares a great way to avoid losing these fall and win- tertime staples. AVOID LOST GLOVES. The Lost Glove World shares a border with Lost Sock World at my house. I never could find Lost Sock World, but I have a solution for not losing so many gloves. When I hang my winter coat, I use plastic clothespins to attach my gloves to the same hanger on the crossbar. Now I always know where my gloves live! -- Robin, Idaho TOOTHPASTE CAP SWITCHAROO. I bought a tube of toothpaste recently that was won- derful because the cap was large and flat and stood upright in the medicine cabinet. The next tube I bought was cheaper but had the usual small cap. Happily, I discov- ered that the old cap fits the new tube. Hurray! I simply washed and recycled the large cap. -- Eva, Cali- fornia SKIP THE ZIPPER. I had a zip- per separate permanently on a pair of shorts. Instead of paying an alter- ations specialist to replace the zip- per, I went to the fabric store and bought some Velcro. After carefully removing the broken zipper, I replaced it with Velcro. It worked beautifully and cost just 59 cents. -- Lagea, Ore- gon DOOR- KNOBS NOT JUST FOR DOORS. When we were young, we loved hanging our jack- ets on doorknobs. Com- petition was fierce for the best locations. My dad, a carpenter and con- tractor, retaliated by buying a bunch of door- knobs and installing them on the entry wall. Hoodies and jackets pre- fer doorknobs to hooks because doorknobs don't dent the fabric the way hooks do. The row of knobs added a unique MORE MUFFINS, PLEASE. I Mary Hunt touch to our entry room. -- Jane, Wisconsin WARM UP THE PHOTOS. I had a lot of older photo albums with half the pictures falling out and half of them stuck to the album. When I tried to remove them, the pictures began to tear. I got a hair dryer and warmed the photos up a little, and they came out of the albums easily. No tearing or anything. -- Pat, Nebraska Everyday Cheapskate was making blueberry muffins from one of those mixes in a bag to which you "just add water." I acci- dentally doubled the amount of water called for, and need- less to say, the muffin mix was like soup. Not wanting to waste it, I realized I had a box of "just add water" pan- cake mix in the pantry. I added pancake mix to the muffin mix until I thought it was the right consistency. The additional water and pancake mix doubled my muffin recipe. The muffins turned out delicious, and my family didn't know the difference. Now I do this all the time to stretch the muf- fin mix. -- Darcy, New Jer- sey Would you like to send a tip to Mary?
