Six Pack: Entertaining Fayetteville by STEPHANIE CRIDER Up & Coming Weekly recently talked to Six Pack about their adventures in Fayetteville. UCW: Who are your band members and what instruments do they play? SP: Lead vocals and guitar are handled by Kevin Bowden. Bobby Stansbury plays the drums and Jak Konzleman plays bass and sings back-up vocal. UCW: Give us a brief history lesson on the band. When and where did you get started? SP: Bowden started the band in 1996 in Fayetteville, N.C. After several member changes, the band settled in with this line-up while living in Raleigh, N.C. Currently the band resides in Fayetteville, Raleigh and Charlotte, N.C. 6 Pack was the backing band for Corrosion of Conformity's drummer Reed Mullin's first project on his own after leaving Corrosion of Conformity. Bowden and Stansbury played briefly for Atlanta-based band DeadGospel, which featured Bonz, the frontman for the band Stuck Mojo. Bowden and Stansbury met through a mutual friend when Bowden was working for Sevendust. Six Pack has released two albums on their own label. In 2002 they released Redneck Renaissance, which is no longer in print, and Intake, Compression, Power, Exhaust was released in 2004. UCW: How did the band get its name? SP: Our name comes from the classic racing movie Six Pack featuring Kenney Rogers. UCW: How would you define your music? SP: Southern-truckstop-funk-pshyco-cadillac country fried rock — or if your into the whole brevity thing, Buffett-style hardcore. UCW: Who are your favorite bands/influences on your music? SP: Motely Crüe, Kenney Rogers, Jerry Reed, Cluthc, old school Charlie Daniels, Lumbee, Big Daddy Kane, and Black Sabbath are just a few of our favorites. UCW: Do you write your own music and where does that inspiration come from? SP: Yes, we do all original songs. Sometimes as an encore we may do an old-school country or rock cover song, but it is never practiced or planned. UCW: What are your hopes/goals for the future of your band? SP: No hope, just to put on the best live shows around. We are planning to release a double album, too. UCW: Where do you see the band five years, 10 years from now? SP: To be alive, having fun chasing that neon rainbow and living that honky tonk dream 24/7/365 UCW: Where can Fayetteville music lovers check in with you in the near future? SP: On Wednesday, Sept. 21, we will be in Jacksonville N.C. at Hooligan's Music Hall with Bob Wayne from Seattle, Chad Bowden and Andrew Kane from Wilmington, N.C. Then on Friday, Sept. 23, we will be at the Rock Shop Music Hall in Fayetteville with hall of fame singer/songwritter Wayne "The Train"Hancock and Chad Bowden. Fans can also get a copy of our latest album Intake, Compression, Power, Exhaust at Karma Culture on Bragg Boulevard. 30 UCW SEPTEMBER 21-27, 2011 STEPHANIE CRIDER, Associate Editor. COMMENTS?
