Parade of Homes Invites You Home by DEMITA ALIP Dreaming of the day that you can get out of your lease and in to your own home? You're not the only one. Owning a home is a lifelong dream for some, and despite the economy, it is still a reality for many in the Fayetteville area. For those who are looking for that special place to call home and a 'this is it' moment, your wait is almost over. The Homebuilders Association is hosting The Parade of Homes throughout Cumberland, Hoke and Harnett counties on Oct. 1-2 and Oct. 8-9. The Parade of Homes is an annual event that allows local residents and future home buyers to tour a variety of houses and get a feel for what options are available for newly built homes in the area. Natalie Fryer, executive offi cer of the Homebuilders Association, wants to educate future home buyers about their options in Fayetteville and the surrounding areas. "We want to promote home ownership and The Parade of Homes is our gift to the community. There are 37 houses open to the public this year, and in each home there is an agent available for questions and inquiries. We have been doing this event for more than 40 years, this year's Parade of Homes is our 48th event," said Fryer. The event also gives local home builders the opportunity to introduce new fl oor plans and show off a variety of designs. Wells Alderman, of H&H Homes and the committee chairman of The Parade of Homes, has at least six houses available for viewing, and is excited about doing his part to help build the community. "H&H Homes is proud to support The Parade of Homes. This event helps home buyers see new plans and get new ideas for future home ownership. It's defi nitely a buyer's market right now, and rates are under 4 percent," Alderman said. All kinds of loans, for all kinds of reasons. For the last three years, the organization has been in partnership with the Arts Council of Fayetteville-Cumberland County, encouraging artists to submit their work for display and an art competition. The competition calls for artists to draw a house that represents their perception of Fayetteville and the local community. The annual competition is an opportunity for the artist to have their work pictured on The Parade of Homes website and includes information for viewers who are interested in purchasing the art. There were 22 artistic interpretations by local artists displayed at The Arts Council in downtown Fayetteville. But congratulations goes out to Rose Kennedy, a local artist with Cape Fear Studios, who was able to create the winning artwork for the competition this year. "As a lifelong resident of the Sandhills area, A painting by Rose Kennedy won the competition for The Parade of Homes guide. I fi nd inspiration for my paintings surrounding me daily. Living in a rural area of Cumberland County, many of my paintings have been created from scenes near my own home. Watching the interplay of light and shadow across the landscape provides a fascinating and ever changing display. Interpreting this brilliance of light and the nuances of shadow in a painting are an intriguing challenge," Kennedy said. The Homebuilders Association has provided a fun way for local residents to explore their artistic side through art and reach for their lifelong dreams of home ownership.
