TOMGANNAM—THEASSOCIATEDPRESS Oakland Raiders defensive end Justin Tuck sits on the bench during the fourth quarter against the St. Louis Rams, on Sunday in St. Louis. ByJoshDubow TheAssociatedPress ALAMEDA The Oakland Raiders found the perfect tonic for the team's most lopsided loss in more than a half-century: the schedule. Instead of spending Monday dwelling on a 52-0 loss to the St. Louis Rams, the Raiders have already turned their attention to this week's game against the Bay Area rival San Francisco 49ers in a contest defen- sive end Justin Tuck believes will be a "bloodbath." "Everybody in this area has been waiting for this game for a long time," Tuck said. "I think that's the best thing that could have happened after a loss like that, is to have this type of game where all of your atten- tion has to be focused on the 49ers going forward." It's quite understandable that the Raiders don't want to look back at Sunday's game for too long. They did watch the film and make the neces- sary corrections. There were quite a few after the team's worst loss since falling 55-0 to Houston in the opener of the 1961 season — two years before Al Davis first joined the franchise. The defense allowed Shaun Hill to lead St. Louis to five touchdowns on the opening five drives of the game as Oakland (1-11) had no answer for the Rams' speed on the outside with Tre Mason, Tavon Austin and Sted- man Bailey. The offense didn't generate a first down until the deficit was 21- 0, turned the ball over a season-high five times and converted just 4 of 18 third-down attempts. That led to rookie Derek Carr get- ting pulled in the fourth quarter af- ter going 24 for 39 for 173 yards and two interceptions for a season-low 50.5 quarterback rating. "There was just no need to keep Derek out there at that point any lon- ger," interim coach Tony Sparano said. Matt Schaub took over and com- mitted two turnovers, including an interception that was returned for a touchdown by Trumaine Johnson. The Enterprise High football team beat Pleasant Valley 31-0 in the Northern Section Divi- sion II Championship on Satur- day night at Enterprise Commu- nity Stadium. Izzy Matthews ran for 131 yards and two touchdowns on 33 car- ries, and Justin Abney had two of four Hornet interceptions, includ- ing returning one 103 yards for a touchdown on a night befitting the crowning of a three-time sec- tion champion. For the third-seeded Vikings (10-3), they had to take solace in reaching their first section final since 2007 and that this could be simply the start of brighter days thanks to this season and dom- inant results in the program's younger levels. Members of the orga- nization were visiting Jon Lester in Atlanta on Monday. The Giants generally don't get involved with expensive free agent pitchers, but they intend to in- crease their payroll next season and spend the money — approxi- mately $20 million per year — that they had planned to use on Pablo Sandoval, who chose the Boston Red Sox last week. The Giants were said to have come in second in the bidding for Cuban slugger Yasmany Tomas, who was one of the last remaining impact hitters on a market flooded with pitching. Lester, 30, went 16-11 with a 2.46 ERA while pitching for the Red Sox and A's last season. Lester is being pursued by big-market clubs such as the Red Sox and Cubs, and he reportedly has already been of- fered a deal worth more than $135 million from the Cubs. He would say they hadn't talked about his employment status dur- ing the weekend. San Francis- co's 19-3 loss to the Seahawks on Thanksgiving and the ugly after- math was still plenty fresh four days later. "Nobody that's for us was happy about losing the game, los- ing a big game," Harbaugh said. "We're still not happy about it. Our job is, my job, let's talk about my job. My job is to get it right. That's what we're attacking to- day, without excuse. Onward to the Raiders." Harbaugh also said Monday that offensive coordinator Greg Roman will remain the play-caller and said he has "unwavering sup- port for all our coaches and our players." Harbaugh said neither man- agement nor ownership has asked him to make any changes on the staff. General manager Trent Baalke's daughter, Cassie, posted on her now-defunct Twitter ac- count late Thursday: "Greg Ro- man can take a hike..the 49ers don't want you no more."
