It can come through relation- ships, work, health, or financial issues, etc. Pressure is a way of life. God has a perfect way to handle pressure. First, let me remind you about His ways. Isaiah 55:8-9 says, "For My thoughts are not your thoughts, nor are your ways My ways," says the Lord. "For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways, and My thoughts than your thoughts." Therefore God's way for us is to em- brace pressure; it is far higher than our way of re- sisting it. Everything in our lives is orchestrated by God. He is very aware of each situa- tion in your life. He knows every thought you think, even before you think it. Every day of your life is stamped with His pur- pose for you. Therefore the pressures you seek to re- sist, are designed specifi- cally by God for your good. "How can pressure be good?" you ask. Think about a potter. First they have to take the hard clay and begin to work water into it. Each molecule of clay must be saturated with water so it will be resilient and form- able. Then, and only then can the potter apply the pressure needed to cen- ter the clay. Until the clay is cen- tered, the potter cannot begin to form the vessel intended. Let's apply that to our own lives. James 1:2 in the J. B. Phillips says, "When all kinds of tri- als and temptations crowd into your lives, my broth- ers, don't resent them as intruders, but welcome them as friends!" When we choose to accept God's higher way of forming us into His vessel, we will grow in our relationship with Him. As we center on Him, He will continue for conform us to His image. Romans 5:3-4 helps us see this progression. In the Amplified it says, "More- over (let us also be full of joy now!) let us exult and triumph in our troubles and rejoice in our suffer- ings, knowing that pres- sure and affliction and hardship produce patient and unswerving endur- ance." Then He goes on to say that it is the trial that produces the fruit of en- durance and developed character. Without the trial we would not grow spiritually. God wants our faith to be authentic. 1 Peter 1:7 says that the trials we go through purify our faith, like gold is refined in fire. The trials help us to cen- ter our affections on Him. Pure faith helps us walk in God's way which is per- fect. The apostle Paul under- stood God's higher way. He tells us to look beyond what we see. 2 Corinthians 4:17-18 says, "For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, is working for us a far more exceed- ing and eternal weight of glory, while we do not look at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen. For the things which are seen are temporary, but the things which are not seen are eternal." Trials center our focus on the Lord. The pressures you are facing right now, are working for your good. They are con- forming your inward char- acter to be a reflection of Jesus to others. If you have not accepted Jesus Christ as your per- sonal Savior, I would urge you to do so today. I'm so grateful Jesus paid the full price of our sins in His death on the cross. When He said, "It is finished" He meant that all you have to do is believe. He made the way for you to receive His gift. John 3:16 says, "For God so loved the world that He gave His only be- gotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlast- ing life." Through that crucible of affliction, the Lord wooed her into an intimate re- lationship with Him. He taught her timeless truths that sustain her, and still permeate her present teachings. Amidst the hustle and bustle of the holidays, Ad- vent Taize Prayer services offer an hour of quiet medi- tation, listening to the read- ing of scripture, prayer and singing. The word Advent means coming and is celebrated by the church during the four weeks before Christmas. During this time, Chris- tians are asked to prepare their hearts and lives in anticipation of the celebra- tion of Christ's birth. It is a time to slow down and be- come quiet; a time to med- itate about the meaning of Christmas. There is focus on the promise that God made to his people and how that promise was ful- filled in Jesus. Advent is a time of waiting in prepara- tion for Christmas; and in the waiting, God comes. The Advent season is an especially appropriate time to experience a Taize Prayer service which com- bines meditative prayer, readings of the Psalms and Scripture, simple repetitive songs, a time of silence, and prayers. The reading of the Psalms places all believers in a sense of communion together. Reading of the Scripture allows worship- pers to discover God's heart through His word. Silence allows believers to quietly listen for God's message. Prayer provides an opportu- nity for praise and thanks- giving, as well as a time to share sorrows and joys with God. Throughout the ser- vice, contemplative songs nourish the worshipper Advent Taize services are open to all, regardless of denomination. Francis sought to offer a balanced message as he met with Turkish political and religious officials at the start of his second trip to the Middle East this year.
