OF ALABAMA BETA The Alabama Arrow Pi Beta Phi at The University of Alabama • Fall 2014 A fter a long summer break, the sisters of Alabama Beta were very excited to return to Tuscaloosa and begin working toward recruitment 2014. Our executive council worked very hard during the summer to plan for recruitment and the fall semester. Once again, the University of Alabama had the largest recruitment in the nation with over 2,200 Potential New Members. Needless to say, Alabama Beta was very busy! We began our efforts with a week-long workshop to review, practice, and get ready for formal recruitment. During this week, we spent long hours at the house but made room for fun sisterhood activities as well. These included a visit from the Steel City Pops truck, a cookie cake surprise, and a shopping break with Kiss and Tell Boutique. We used this week to renew our bonds as a chapter and get our spirits and minds ready for the week to come. We had many visitors during the first two weeks of August. We were lucky to have Region 4 Director Eileen Grigutis visit Tuscaloosa during recruitment. Alabama Beta also had numerous visitors from Headquarters: Member Services and Programming Director Shawn Eagleburger, Assistant Director of Collegiate Services Leigh Thiedeman, Collegiate Services and Programming Coordinator Ashley Hallowell, Recruitment and Collegiate Support Coordinator Maggie Skeffington, and Marketing and Communications Director Eily Cummings. We cannot emphasize enough how much we appreciate their support and guidance! During recruitment we met so many amazing women and were proud to be a part of such an amazing Alabama community. On Bid Day we welcomed 120 baby angels to their new home and had a wonderful celebration with both them and their parents. It was a great way to end a long, busy week. Special thanks to all who helped make recruitment such a success, including Vice President of Membership Sarah Braslow '11 and Director of Recruitment Anne Catherine Luckett '11. Alabama Beta had many activities in the fall semester. We have had many tutors come to the house to help members get off to a great academic start. We also have many workshops and sisterhood events planned. We cannot wait for the weeks to come! We are excited to continue the new member education program. The new baby angels are adjusting well to college life and will be a fantastic addition to our chapter. Initiation took place on Sunday, October 12. It is with great pride that we fully welcome these wonderful women into our sisterhood. We are cheering on the Tide and enjoying a fantastic semester!
