The Lion & The Ladybug 2 T he fall semester started with a lot of excitement surrounding recruitment. I am incredibly proud of our Chapter, as well as the 154 new members that we recruited. Recruitment week was hectic but rewarding. We had fun with the '90s Bid Day theme, This Is How We Mu It, and enjoyed a celebratory dinner and dance party with our new members at the Powerhouse in downtown Oxford. Our new Phi class has stayed busy learning about the values and traditions we share at Phi Mu. They were even able to visit Phi Mu National Headquarters for their Phi retreat. NATIONAL AWARDS At National Convention, Samra Ward '11 received one of the two Most Outstanding Collegiate Member Service awards. Alpha Delta came away with other honors as well, including an award for having 100 percent of our Chapter give to the Phi Mu Foundation for the annual M3 Campaign. CAMPUS INVOLVEMENT This year, members of Alpha Delta can be found everywhere on the Ole Miss campus serving as orientation leaders, Ole Miss ambassadors, in the Columns Society, and with the Student Activities Association to name a few. During Homecoming, we were proud to have Taelor Rubin '12 represent us out on the field as the M-Club senior maid. This year's Chapter retreat was held at the Rebel Ropes Course. It allowed Chapter members to get to know each other better through different small group challenges. PHILANTHROPIC ENDEAVORS For National Philanthropy Day on October 20, Alpha Delta created a social media campaign to promote awareness about the harmful effects of domestic violence. This semester's philanthropy event, hosted on November 11, featured a fundraiser by Krispy Kreme, proceeds of which went to LeBonheur Children's Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee. Members of the Chapter were excited to have the opportunity to visit the hospital this semester during one of the two trips planned by our philanthropy chairman. The women took teddy bears to patients and gained a greater appreciation for the money we raise. THANK YOU, SUPPORTERS As always, we appreciate the family, friends, and alumnae who support us. Special thanks goes to the House Corporation, which spent the summer redecorating our beautiful home to be the modern and welcoming environment that it is today. Panhellenic set quota to 135, but we did so well that we welcomed home an extra 19 women! We added a new round of recruitment called Greek Day, which replaced water parties. This round gave members the opportunity to discuss Chapter obligations, dues, and our Chapter values with the potential new members. Our theme for philanthropy round was Red, White and Mu, and we enjoyed showcasing our Chapter's accomplishments, as well as our philanthropy, LeBonheur Children's Hospital. For skit round, our theme was Girls Night In. The Chapter room was decorated with neon and black lights, which made the round super fun. For preference round, we used gold with cream and pastel accents and shared letters about our Phi Mu experience with the women who returned. Overall, Alpha Delta swept the row. We had the best return rates we have seen in years, and we're very proud of all of our new members. Love in Our Bond, Brittany Clark '12, Recruitment Chairman Emma Faulkner Magee '54 feels fortunate to have worked for the Mississippi Department of Transportation Second District for 30 years. However, she said retirement is not too far away. Kay Schillinger Walls '58 is happily retired with her husband in Texas. She still fondly remembers her days as a Phi Mu with her beautiful sisters. Rebecca Williams Howson '59 is trying to stay active by going to the gym four days per week. She is a deacon at her Presbyterian church and is a member of the DuPont Historical Society board. Her two sons and their families live in the Washington area and both sons work with the state patrol. Beth Ballard Estes '61 loves hearing from her home chapter. She was the president of the Oxford area alumnae club many years ago. Life is keeping her very busy much of the time, but she would really like to visit the undergraduates once in a while. Carol Lemons Schurtz '65 retired after many years in pediatric nursing. She bought a small trailer and traveled around Georgia and Florida. She enjoys scuba diving and takes underwater Alumnae News (Continued on page 4) Alpha Deltas Serve As Campus Leaders New Members Empower Already Strong Chapter The Chapter on Bid Day.
