Richardson '11 A lpha Iota has already accomplished a lot for not even being halfway through the semester, and we are on track to meet the goals that we set for ourselves at the start of the year. Getting Out the Sigma Pi Name One of our biggest goals this semester was to make Sigma Pi a well-known name on the S&T campus once again, and so far, we've made big strides toward doing so. We worked hard in Greek Week and placed 5th, we're participating in other organization's philanthropic events, and we continuously work with the Rolla community through service projects. Chapter Hosts Successful Fall Event However, we realized that if we wanted to get people on campus to recognize Sigma Pi, we need to have a big event at the house. So this semester, we decided to hold our first registered Greek social event in years. With the help of Delta Tau Delta and the hard work of Social Chairman Isaac Hicks '15, as well as the rest of our chapter, we were able to hold a fantastic event on October 4. We had guests from all fraternities and sororities on campus show up, and everyone had a great time. I'm sure that many of you remember the fun times you had at the Sigma Pi house, and it was great to be able to experience that, too. We feel like this was the starting point that we needed to get Sigma Pi's name back on campus, and we are going to take this success and build off of it. Academics Still a Top Priority Although we've had fun this semester, we keep our academics a top priority. Last semester we achieved a GPA of 3.02. While this was a huge improvement over our previous GPA of 2.88, we want to see it further increase. The actives constantly work hard in their studies and to ensure that the new members succeed in their classes. There are many tasks ahead of us for this year, like recruitment, philanthropy, and academics, but we look forward to what the rest of the semester has in store. If the hard work from the first half is any indication, the second half will be just as great.
