Don't forget to fi ll out the red ticket attached to items purchased from the gift shop, you may have By Shawn Farrish Continuing our tradition of hosting win- ter guest speakers in our park, The Sce- nic Road RV Park is proud to announce that we are bringing in Jim and Chris Guld, aka Geeks on Tour, for a week of seminars at our clubhouse. Jim and Chris have been popular seminar presenters at RV rallies across America for years, criss-crossing the U.S. annually. They teach a series of classes geared toward the RV traveler who wants to get a better handle on to- day's technology and how it can enhance the lifestyle. The classes to be presented daily from January 12-16 are designed to help today's RVer to research, plan, record, and share their journey. The topics planned for Geek Week at The Scenic Road are: Jan 12 – Technology for Travelers Overview covers the devices and soft- ware they think are the easiest and most useful. Learn how they use smartphones and cellular technology for their internet connections, what mapping and GPS technology they like best, how they man- age thousands of digital pictures on their computers and post the best ones online for free and lastly, how to share all your experiences online with friends and family using Blogs and Photo Albums. Jan 13 – Smartphones and Tablet Over- view for Travelers explains what these devices are and what extra costs they incur. Whether you've had one for years, or you're just thinking about get- ting one, you'll learn something. Dis- cussion will include the features that are important to travelers, hotspot ca- pability, GPS, cameras, travel apps, and Bluetooth….and much more. Jan 14 – Smartphone Photography – a hands on class. This class is limited to 12 attendees and includes a workbook. Jan 15 – Make a Free Website with Blogger, Picasa, and Google+ will intro- duce you to Google's free website and photo tools, Blogger.com and Picasa photo software. Learn how to start a blog/website and add stories and pho- tos with Geeks on Tour's easy to under- stand, step-by-step instructions. Imag- ine starting a family website, adding stories and pictures through the years and having a beautiful coffee table book to give to your grandchildren when they graduate. Or…document that trip of a lifetime so you'll remember it all for years to come. Jan 16 – Using Google Maps to Plan, Preserve, and Share your Travels will show you how to plan a multi-stop route and print out all the directions. You can create and save custom maps to record your travels and share them with friends and family. Your custom maps can even include your photos, links, and descriptions. Although the seminar series is de- signed with the traveling RVer in mind, I think you can see how even the full-time Quartzsite resident might benefi t from these topics. With the exception of the Jan.14th seminar, classes are free to The Scenic Road's guests with priority seat- ing. All remaining seats will be available to the public for a nominal $5 fee. Pre- registration in person is required and seating for the classes is limited. Holiday recycling program begins By Maggie Ross Through a special Action Team pro- gram sponsored by Thrivent Lutheran, Covenant Lutheran Church has been given funds to do a holiday recycle program. Gene Ross, has placed sev- eral containers out in Rainbow Acres, where he resides, to collect aluminum cans and food donations. He will also be at the New Farmers Market on Wednesdays from 8 AM to 12 Noon collecting cans and any donated food items. All funds and food will be used to help the Quartzsite Food Bank dur- ing the next two months in helping low- income folks and the needy to have a blessed holiday season. Please save your cans and bring them to a drop off point and don't forget to buy an extra food item next time you are out shopping. It all helps and promotes "Community Unity". Many of us are blessed with far more then we need--it feels really great to be able to pass it forward. Thank you to those of you who are already contributing. Geeks on Tour comes to Quartzsite Mt.
