Quartzsite - Members of Troop 116's participated in the Boy Scouts of America's Annual "Scouting for Food Program" last week. Thousands of scouts, leaders, parents and volunteers distributed over one million bags to neighborhoods across the country. They returned last Saturday, November 16th to collect those bags fi lled Boy Scouts hold successful food drive The students of Salome High School have been very busy as winter approaches. With the end of both the volleyball and football seasons, the coaches had some comments on how they performed this year. Mr. Drotzman, the foot- ball coach, said that the team had a successful season, even with having so many young players, and with a 5 game winning streak, they were able to overcome a lot of adversity such as players being injured. He also said that he is looking forward to next year with the large amount of returning players, and although they will be losing 3 seniors, they plan to have a good season. Mr. Anog, the volleyball coach, had many positive things to say as well. He believes that the girls did very well this year, that he saw a lot of improvement, and that he looks forward to the new players next year and their potential. The team kept good attitudes and plans on making more improvement. The students are working dili- gently to raise money and help the community outside of school too. Members of student council volun- teered at the V.F.W. on November 11th to help with the Veteran's day dinner, and are planning to have a Spaghetti Dinner on December 3rd to raise money, tickets are on sale now for $5 each. To help strength- en their leadership skills, student council members will be attending a President/Advisor Luncheon this month. Sophomores, juniors, and seniors are working to raise money also; the sophomore class is cur- rently selling beanies for $15, and will be selling advent calendars in December for $2 each, the junior class is selling items out of a holi- day catalog, and the senior class is having a Thanksgiving Basket raffl e, with tickets to enter being $1. Any contributions are greatly appreciated. The school's science club has ex- citing things planned, with a virtual fi eld trip to learn about mining in Arizona, and interested students are beginning to prepare for the Science Olympiad competition in the spring.
