Madness At the Crown by TERI MEDINA When the Carnival of Madness rolls into the Crown Coliseum on Sept. 14, Theory of a Deadman and company will be on the tail end of a 25-city tour through the U.S. The show is high energy, and has all of the performers looking forward to putting on a great performance that will have fans talking about the concert for weeks to come. In the second incarnation of the Carnival of Madness, Dean Back of Theory of a Deadman says, "The tour's been awesome. It's a great package with Alter Bridge, Black Stone Cherry, Adelitas Way and Emphatic. We're having a lot of fun out here. We've toured with Black Stone Cherry and Adelitas Way before, so it's nice to be back on the road with some familiar faces. It's a great show from top to bottom. You have to give the fans a bang for their buck." "All of the bands are having a lot of radio success," said Back, in- cluding Theory of a Deadman. The album The Truth Is … debuted on Billboard's Top Ten in July and the song "Lowlife" is a #1 single. As one of the tour headliners, Back says, "It's great to be able to shut the night down. It's a lot of high energy and crowd participation. We like to have a lot of fun on stage and we want to make sure everyone is the crowd is hav- ing fun." Theory of a Deadman brings Madness to the Crown on Sept. 14. Mark Tremonti of Alter Bridge agrees, "We're co-headlining with Theory and we couldn't be two more different bands. It's great because the Theory guys play great hooky, fun stuff and we play more of your brooding, moody stuff back-to-back. And, of course, Black Stone Cherry comes out and plays their awesome Southern rock set, then we have some brand new bands with Adelitas Way and Emphatic." Alter Bridge is supporting the successful and appropriately named AB III. Tremonti says of their third studio album, "Probably my three favorite songs are 'All Hope is Gone', 'Show Me a Sign' and 'Isolation.'" Radio stations have had 'Ghost of Days Gone By' in heavy rotation this summer, lending to the excitement surrounding the Carnival of Madness. Rick DeJesus, lead singer of Adelitas Way, says it's the combination of the bands that makes Carnival of Madness a crowd pleaser. "The bands on this one are up and coming bands that are the future of rock or bands that have established themselves as rock powerhouses. I feel like our time has come to go in and make some noise." The Adelitas Way set will include favor- ites from Home School Valedictorian like "Alive," "Sick" and "The Collapse." "The anticipation for this tour was huge. Every night has been great. Great turn-out, great crowd," said Justin McCain, lead guitarist of Emphatic. Emphatic's single "Bounce" from the summer release Damage is getting attention, but McCain insists it's just the beginning. "There's not one song in particular that going to define our sound. That's why we're so proud of the record. There's a song for everyone. We just really like to take the stage every single night. It's going to be high energy and a great time," said McCain. And if you're wondering if a Wednesday night with the Carnival of Madness is worth dragging through your Thursday morning, DeJesus of- fers, "Everybody's looking to have a good time. You don't want to work your life away and spend your money just on bills and not enjoy life. Concerts, like the Carnival of Madness, are a perfect getaway."
